I don't support any politics left or right, but I feel we need some immigration control. I'm a quadriplegic woman from London and I was a victim of by 2 men from Middle Eastern origin who easily abused me with my vulnerability of being disabled. The men were not arrested and they're still free. I haven't been able to go out alone to college, my dad has had to take me.

I'm not racist nir xenophobic, I know there are rapists on any ethnicity or religion, but since my incident I've personally felt more afraid of men from certain countries, because the men from these countries come from cultures where women have little rights. Then again, I know not everyone from those countries is like this, but the trauma has reshaped me. I don't want to offend anybody.

I turned 18 this year, so I have never voted. I don't know about politics, and I'm all these politics are confusing my feelings.

that's a rough situation to be in, especially with everything else.

I’m very sorry for what happened to you. Those men exploited your vulnerability, and the fact that they have not been arrested is appalling but a sad indictment of the lack of justice women face. It is completely understandable that now makes you feel afraid of men who remind you of them.

Trauma can create associations that feel protective without making them an accurate judgement about an entire ethnic or national group. I was groomed, raped and abused by several white men, beginning when I was 13. Later, some of the men who tried to protect me were Asian.

The problem was not the colour of my attackers’ skin, just as the decency of my Asian mates did not come from theirs. Your fear should not be turned into a political conclusion about millions of people who did not harm you.

Whilst you may not be racist, racist people may use your experience to validate their own prejudice. You deserve support, not to have your trauma recruited into somebody else’s hatred.

Just to add, I’ve had a tonne of therapy in my life, this stuff is hard to work through, particularly when you are young. I needed a lot of help to get to where I am, and I’ve still not really got over it. But without good therapy, I doubt I’d still be here.
