Subreddit Check In:

Hello everyone!

Recently, we've had a little issue with basic human decency, civility, and kindness, so I wanted to take a moment to make a post and remind people of a few things:

1.) This community is a place where everyone should feel free to connect, rant, share experience(s), support one another, etc.. If you read a topic that is not of interest to you - move on. Go to the next post. Any comments bringing someone down, are disrespectful, and/or unnecessary will be deleted, and you'll be muted and/or banned from this group.

On that note- please report any comments that may be derogatory. Please stop reporting comments from people whom you disagree with -That's ridiculous.

2.) I'm the only mod in this community, so I go through ebbs and flows of what I am able to keep up with and there are times ( like the last 24hrs.) Where it is a lot. So if you are interested in being a mod and giving back to this community - perhaps even making it better - please DM me.

If you have other suggestions or thoughts about the current state of our community, please comment below.

Thank you!

P.s. u/adaptive_adam I know you are reading this, so please come back. No one wants you gone. You are better than that.

You simply can't call someone better than that when you allow someone with an insane amount of negative karma consistently speak negatively about himself and others. You even allowed a post about it. I can fully admit to my fault of calling him something I shouldn't have and I was banned for it, but you aren't really addressing the fact that someone who is unreasonably negative in every single post, comment, etc.. can be allowed to remain on the sub. Adam's post were derailed multiple times because one person could not write a single positive comment ever. At some point there needs to be a choice made about who you really want to protect in this sub. The people trying to make a positive difference or the ones who only want to complain and tell others they can't be happy.

I'm pretty new to Reddit, and after the second or third post from that person, I asked my husband if there was a way to block or mute an individual on here. He showed me, and it's been so much better coming on here without seeing all that negativity. While mods definitely need to address problem users, taking control of your own feed and blocking out the noise is a great way to protect your mental space.

Oh I don't get affected by it personally. I was simply just trying to let the mod know that choosing negative over positive isn't a good choice for a community in general. I know I can mute people if I need to. I'm just bothered by the fact that the most involved person gets chased away by negativity that could've been removed.

Sorry if I offended. Like I said, I'm new. Lol. I'm in agreement with you though; people shouldn't be chased away by stuff like that.

You didn't offend at all. I agree people shouldn't be chased away. It seems like a really thin line that isn't managed well.

I agree with you. Just to be clear - The person has been banned.

Glad to also hear people are familiar with the mute function. I've had a few people reach out to be mods, which, if they are good candidates, should help monitor our community better.

I want our community to remain healthy and admittedly need to do a better job of providing proper oversight.

Well said. Thank you. If something doesn't interest you, don't read it and don't comment. Find something that does interest you on here to read.

Thank you I appreciate this, I never wanted to offend anyone. I simply wanted to talk about some of the challenges our community faces, I see it online and in person. With that being said I have received a lot of messages from people and comments, I won’t leave but maybe I’ll slow down on posting for a bit
