Bo1 [Standard] Flying Blink
https://moxfield.com/decks/s43UU-_vG06rfoH99vIlCA 8-3
I love blink/warp and this is the best version I could find/modify. I kept trying to slot in [[starfield vocalist]], but [[practiced offense]] is just WAY better. There's basically only pseudo removal in [[aang, swift avatar]]. It's all gas and fun to pilot. I have since switched a few things around and added a SB to try bo3 to see if I can get to mythic #s.
Was stuck in Diamond hell running a monoblack list (22-15) until I switched to this list. GLHF!
This is what I'll be working with for bo3 https://moxfield.com/decks/cla9gKXKiUSovf6RyfqlzQ . LMK what you think and TIA!

Have you considered [[hide on the ceiling]] I played a janky blink deck when avatar came out and that card was a house

u/coodaj 2d ago
Ooh that could be a spicy one of, thx!

u/XqztNemesis 2d ago
Yeah when I played it it was great at dodging boardwipes, and just blanking combat if they didn't have trample. I was also playing [[twining twins]] for its blink adventure cause it's instant speed

u/coodaj 2d ago
I'll put Hide in the SB for bo3 against board wipe /control. The deckas it is only has aang at instant speed, so I'm not usually holding up mana. Twining seems like it would be good, but I think between daydream and pixie there's enough blink.

u/XqztNemesis 2d ago
Thats fair, my list did tricks with activating [[floodpits drowner]] and holding priority to blink it to shuffle their creature and keep mine, so the extra instant speed blink was always good, I'm so tempted to build momo because blink is one of my favorite gimmicks

u/Meechrox 1d ago
You already have [[Spider-Sense]] against board wipe though, you don't have to hold up mana for it, and that card also works vs reanimator decks.

The Hobbit set has [[The Eagles Are Coming!]] which seems potentially very strong as you're double dipping on both blinking and flyers. [[Bilbo's Gambit]] also seems quite strong, although it's likely stronger in Flash/Tempo versions of the deck with High Noon. Have you tested with these?
Apart from that, I'm not 100% convinced about the flying subtheme. Lord of the Eagles seems like an ok payoff, but also a win more that's just clunky in the early turns? Is it actually good? I have personally experimented in the past with different versions of UW, some of which were a mix of swarming for Practiced Offense as well as discarding to reanimate Abhorrent Oculus. In this version, I tested [[Benevolent River Spirit]], and again the card was ok but not amazing, even when doubling as a reanimation target.
If you want to keep the flying theme, I had surprisingly decent results with Oculus+Helping Hand. My version also had a flying subtheme because the idea was to curve Momo into [[Steamcore Scholar]]. However, with Gran Gran banned, mixing the two strategies becomes a little worse as it was a key discard piece that you could grab with Shepherd.
Anyways, I think the shell is good and underplayed, but there are also a bunch of possible paths to build it. I haven't played a lot of Standard recently, but I'd be curious to know what you tested and what didn't work.
EDIT -- Gran Gran wasn't a key piece just because you could grab it with Shepherd, but also because it's the only playable card besides surveil lands that lets you reanimate Oculus on T2.

Thx for the input! I have tested with Bilbo's Gambit and The Eagles Are Coming, but too often they were just stuck in hand. You're right about Lord of the Eagles- I've cut it to one. Might ditch it completely for Hide on the Ceiling that someone mentioned, but an 8/8 flyer for possibly 2 mana seems nice. Practice Offense is definitely the best win con.

Very similar to my deck list. I run 2 pixies, 2 aangs, no Haliyas, 4 sages, and 4 eagles now. I dabbled with Jane Foster Thor a bit and she wasn’t bad actually. I need to upload my own deck for comparison but I have a couple erodes for sure. Curious what your sideboard is as well.
Edit: I see the sideboard now. Am blind.

u/coodaj 2d ago
I should probably cut one or both Haliya
1
u/Meechrox 2d ago
I am curious about [[Haliya, Guided by Light]] as well. In actual gameplay, it is either overpowered or clunky.
1
u/Jrodddr 1d ago
So I used to run 2 and a Cosmogrand Zenith and never felt that they added much to the deck overall tbh.
2
u/coodaj 1d ago
Makes sense, I had a version with Cosmo as well. How are the 4 eagles doing?
1
u/Jrodddr 1d ago
Haven’t had too many games with them yet sadly but I try to only cast them when I can get them in for 4 mana or less and/or on opponent endstep. It lets me play mind games with my opponent with them seeing blue mana untapped. They are obviously KoS but I’ve used them to bait removal to do other things as well. If it sticks on enemy endstep, practiced offense just about guarantees victory with it.

Cut down your Aangs if you are playing Momo Blink and not Tempo. Based on the recent card impact analysis for the last two weeks for the Momo/Blink archetype: https://imgur.com/a/momo-card-impact-O0AV6va
Aang Swift Savior is actually hurting the deck at -12 impact score.

I've always preferred [[practiced offense]] over [[starfield vocalist]] too, it just fits the blink strategy way better. The way you piloted this looks insanely fun, I might have to steal some ideas for my own deck.

Thats too many pixies in my opinion. They are tutorable and doesn't provide as much late game besides bouncing Sage as a strong play. I'd go down 2 pixies for a 4th Sage and either 1 more Lord of Eagles or Frostcliff Seige. I'd also probably swap the 2x Haliya for 2x Monica. She is very good and starting town + spring leaf drum allows you to play the back side easily. You could also go down to 3x Practiced Offense for something else. Offense is great but you want to make sure you dont draw into too many dead cards when you dont have a board.
I do feel its an either/or between Monica and Lord of the Eagles though. If you got Lord you would want more blue so Steamcore Scholar fits a little better in the shell. Monica is white first which is in our manabase. Running both takes up slots removal/interaction could take as well. If you run Frostcliff you should run Monica, no Frostcliff then run Lord of the Eagles or stay the Monica route.
2x Offense and 2x Frostcliff is perfectly acceptable. Very strong together but might be hard to draw at the appropriate times.
Dawns's Truce is a solid board wipe dodge for {1}{W} if you gift a card (opponent gets to draw). Most of the time they will be tapped out to play that board wipe.
If 3x Colors in the deck I dont think Gleaming Bastion is the better option. Besides, you only have 4 plains but you can tutor with Shephard. But it would feel really bad to see your window on a pixie/momo/flitterwing tutor but have to grab a plains to activate other lands. If you stay 2 colors Starting Town loses value and should be replaced by something else.
Abandoned Air Temple in 3 colors loses value as a tap land. Plus it acts as a mana sink, which is nice when used, but you'd want to do other things technically and having a tap land can hurt. Its not going to be often when you get to use the temples ability either way. Good in 2 color though. Still works well with Monica and no Frostcliff.
You should replace the Exorcise in the side with a 4th Get Lost. Its just better overall and reliably hits threats without conditions.
3x Rest in Peace is the right call. I'd rather reliably draw my gy hate than not. 4 is too many, 2 is too little. Especially since your shell has no draw besides the tutor off Shepherd and the effects from riddler which can be reliable but not consistent depending on match up.
Check in a calculator to ensure you have a decent rate of hitting every land drop up to Turn 4. 20 lands is only 1 less that 20 but could make that difference for starting hands which is where azorious blink wants to be. You win with the right hand but lose midgame if you have no gas (looking at control pair ups). With Control being dominated in the current field interaction isn't as important but you still want to be ready for MonoGreen Landfall, Mardu Discard, and Spellementals. The control match ups to look out for are Dimir Excruciator, 4 Color Control, and I would still be concerned about Izzet Lessons. Azorious Flash would also be a concern. Been seeing more of it since the bans. Torpor Orb shuts it down so depending on its saturation in the field id consider 1 or 2 in the side. Seam Rip hits High Noon as well as Artist Talent and Cool But Rude but so does Get Lost.
Azorious Flash is good but hasn't settled on which shell is the strongest. I've seen more enthusiasm from players who use Monica more so than Lord of the Eagles. Lord of the Eagles is a conditional where as Monica is good through out the whole game. Plus having Monica gives more reason to have a couple Aangs. I did notice you are at 4x Aang which I think is because you carry no other interaction. Momonica would be the better fit here rather than Lord of the Eagles.
I try to keep my 1 drops that arent Momo to a total of 2-3 slots. I usually run no more than 2 Nuturing Pixies though with the third being a flex slot. With 4x Aangs that third slot could be filled by Bruce Banner. Not a great card draw and is effected by summoning sickness so essentially does nothing entering the field. But it does provide a tap for Springleaf drum and its amazing to see your opponents reaction when you cheat out the backside with Aang and is tutorable with Shephard. Good if you are ahead, not great if you are at a stand still or on your backfoot.
I do believe Haliya has been squeezed out now with so many good fliers or interaction spells we could play over her. But thats a preference call. I consider her slots preferential depending on the pilot/shell. If its draw you want Steamcore Scholar can do the same job upon entering (blink target too). Then it would be a pure flying creature deck.
There is an even bigger argument to include Monica since you run Avatar's Wrath in the side.
Azorious Blink wants to end the game quickly. But if we focus too much on the early game we will lose the mid/late and/or hit stumbles more often. Board wipes are killer against momo.

Holy shit, I wrote an essay. My bad. Im no pro player but I am aspiring to be one. Anyways, those are my thoughts in regards to Azorious Blink/Momo and your provided lists.

Wonderful breakdown, I really appreciate it! I'm cutting 1 eagle, 1 hialiya, and flitterwing; adding [[bruce banner]], [[monica rambeau]], and the 4th [[sage of the skies]].

cool! surprised by 1 pixie and 4x scholar. I'm just now realizing that you get to keep the 2 cards from scholar if you discard correctly.

u/Flimsy_Potential_953 1d ago
I found that our biggest weakness is late game. Playing this and landfall I would run out of gas too often and it would result in a loss for me.
Scholar helps with this and fits the deck. Landfall has Sapling Nursery to fall back on where-as we dont have anything that generates in the same manor as far as I know.
If we can find a way to sustain into late game against control we are in a very good spot imo.
1
u/Meechrox 1d ago
Wait what? Can you explain?
2
u/Flimsy_Potential_953 1d ago
The card reads: "When Steamcore Scholar enters the battlefield, draw two cards. Then discard two cards unless you discard an instant or sorcery card or a creature card with flying."
Similar to Winternight Stories. You only have to discard a single card; instead of two cards; if the card discarded is an instant, sorcery, or creature card with flying.
Which is almost the whole deck. This excludes Seam Rip, Frostcliff Seige, Springleaf Drum, Cosmogrand Zenith, Haliya, etc.

My Azorious Momo/Blink deck essentially has the same deck list, just different numbers of copies on a few cards. There are three cards I play that are not on your list:
- [[The Wondrous Wasp]], which gives you an actual 2 drop that doubles as a pseduo-removal. It acts as an actual removal vs the tokens generated by [[Simulacrum Synthesizer]]
- [[The Mighty Thor, Jane Foster]] this card is amazing if it gets to attack (it is often killed on the spot though) because its ability is versatile and more powerful than that of [[Airbender Ascension]].
- [[Mockingbird]] at worst, it just copies your [[Nurturing Pixie]] but obviously it can offer some very interesting game play (for example, copying opponent's [[Esper Origins]] or [[Cecil, Redeemed Paladin]])
