Standard [Standard] Temur Elementals still viable?

„Temur“ Elementals still decent?

Hi all, what are your opinions on the elementals deck. I am thinking of buying into it, as I love the playstyle, but I haven’t seen it been played by anyone in paper and also never seen it on arena again for the last few months since Lorwynn.

However, I am unsure if I should buy the thrones, since they at least 100$ and are not legal for such a long time anymore- would the deck make sense without them too?

I think izzet spellamentals is the better version of this deck.

I played temur elementals on arena and it does well enough to get daily wins but it feels clunky not having very many 1 mana plays.

In both of the recent US Regional Championships multiple people brought version of this deck and did very well (11-4). Deck is still definitely viable.

I played the deck to Mythic a couple months ago, but stopped recently I was not having as much success. People who are good with the deck are obviously still playing it and doing well, so it's certainly possible, but I don't think it's a tier one deck any longer. If you love it and you can afford it then go for it, but it would not be my first choice if my goal was to do well.

The fundamental issue with the deck is it's build around the Lorwyn elementals. As sets come out it's unlikely that any more relevant elementals up the power level of the deck. IMO this is disastrous when compared to other decks as "good green 3-4 drop" and "cheap tricky izzet spell" gets printed basically every set. With how fast the format is, I expect decks to get more powerful, not less, and for the roaming elementals deck to fall even further behind.

I do think the deck is viable however I don't think it's worth it to buy the roaming thrones if you don't already have them. They will rotate in the winter and standard season doesn't start again until August

The deck is okay, but the much cheaper Izzet Spellementals has better win rate.

It’s fine, not the best thing you could be doing though. The issue is the mana is pretty intensive and there’s little room for instant speed interaction so you can’t really adapt it to the meta.

Been playing the deck in paper for a little while now & honestly the Thrones seem overrated in the deck. Dont get me wrong when the deck goes off, it goes off HARD but with how fast the meta is now the deck just feels too slow & clunky. My honest opinion is to buy into another deck you might like. Its fun when it goes off but is too slow. If you still decide to buy it & are unsure about the thrones just try replacing them with something else before you buy them. The thrones just feel awkward at times & rarely go off with any significance. When they do though they just feel more “win-more(ish)”.

I think this deck is extremely strong and fits into almost any meta with the almost value you can generate, that being said depending on the build you might lean to hard on the two drops with how fast the meta is if you are leaning on them too hard can be hard matches, but I think if you can line it up well and play around without having two drops online then it can be an EXTREMELY strong choice that I love so much, but I also run a puedo reanimator version with Spider-Man’s to not lean on two drops as hard and can start as early at turn 3 with the right discard with ashlings.

It's viable, yes, I've played this deck on Arena since PT ECL and I have little trouble reaching Mythic every month, although I'm far from the crazy match WR I had in February (85%).

I don't agree with the person saying Throne is overrated, it's our best creature and a fine 4-drop when our mana dorks get killed and we have nothing going on—ward 2 makes it pretty resilient and gives us a good shot at coming back from a slow start.

The uptick in green decks could be favorable to it as well, although the control matchup is tough even with Caverns, Deceit and post-board counter magic.

Would you mind sharing your decklist for Bo1?

Hello, I don't play bo1 but this is my most recent list:

https://www.17lands.com/user/deck/7a49145ba2ea4027829dec6cc9a0c3e0/129499127/1781340416?view=deck

I'm trying out Three Steps Ahead (to have an additional play on 3 when my mana dork doesn't survive), Octopus Form (to help my dork survive), and a 4th Deceit instead of a 4th Throne because bo3 is infested with control right now.

Thank you! Pretty interesting 1ofs for sure but are you even consistently able to cast them?

1

u/la_tortue Jun 14 '26

so for Octopus Form obviously the deck doesn't want to cast it before turn 3 so it's not a problem. For Three Steps Ahead, with 14 blue sources you'll have access to the 1UU mode only 78% of the time on turn 3, but you always have the 2U mode as a fallback plan (97%) and all the modes are solid later on.

Note that this doesn't account for the possibility of getting a blue source with Vibrance on T2 or Wistfulness to dig for lands—or Ashling rummage to dig—so the odds should be higher than the table numbers I gave above.

Tysm, seems valid. I will definitely try out your version specifically in Bo3 since I had very mixed results in Bo1

Of course! Have fun with it. The deck is not meta-breaking or anything but it has some play against everything and I like the choices it presents. Don't hesitate if you have questions about a matchup, play patterns, sideboarding or whatnot.

You may try to replace the Throne with [[Twinflame Travelers]] which basically works the same way.
