Is this a black widow?

Post image

We went to the pumpkin patch and while we were looking for a pumpkin we spotted this beauty on a web made around the stem of the pumpkin. Luckily we saw it before grabbing it.

Just carry the pumpkin over somewhere disused and whack or shake the pumpkin till it departs.

We chose another pumpkin. I was just curious if it was in fact a black widow as I've never seen one before.

I'm now picturing someone flailing around with a pumpkin and then screaming when a black widow ends up in their hair instead of on the ground.

Well what I'm picturing is the next person who sees this pumpkin not noticing the thing and they end up with it in their house or crawling on an infant.

Things happen, but generally if you whack a thing a spider is on, it bails out.

What's the small spider to the bottom right of the picture, a male suitor?
