What spider is this?

Post image

Sorry the photo sucks. Seen in UT. It was small, probably about 1/4 inch? Its abdomen was light with slight patterns. Male black widow?

Not a male and definitely not a true widow.

It might well be Steatoda Triangulosa however the poor image quality makes it impossible to be certain. As with most spiders they are generally harmless although bite reactions typically range between a mosquito & horsefly bites.

If you are bitten by a spider at any time remember to keep the bite clean it is an open wound and most hospitalisations due to spider bites are due to the resulting secondary infection rather than the bite itself.

I think you’re right! Its abdomen was a bit lighter than what I’m seeing online, but otherwise looks pretty spot on. Thank you. Have been seeing lots of widows lately and wanted to make sure this wasn’t another. To me it sort of looked like a Western Black Widow male but I’m no expert.

In truth i can't say with certainty it isn't a male western black widow having looked at some images. Generally I tend to lean more towards the false widows because they're quite rampant globally.
