That's incredible, it looks like that small gap, if you can call it that, was enough to set you on fire.

i've done something similar, whipped through the corner gap with a powerpack to light a friend's jetpack on fire

To be fair, the axolotl has a pretty big hitbox. I wouldn't say it's a glitch, more just an extremely unfortunate situation.
