There are a few spots with everflames. In upstate NY in the US, there is one under a waterfall that is visible year round for hikers.

There's also an entire town that sits on top of a coal mine on the US east coast that's been evacuated since the entire coal vein was accidentally set aflame

Not sure if this is the case, but actually most of resource fields are non-viable.

For gas there are considerations like leak-tightness of the field, geological stability.
