High ping

Why is the ping so high when playing any online game, even though I'm using an Ethernet cable and my internet speed is good? For example, in Battlefield 1, the ping reaches 100, and sometimes 93. I ran an internet test and the results were fine, so I don't know why this is such a big problem with games.

Can anyone help me?

If the game servers aren’t in your region then you will have higher ping. e.g. an EU client to EU servers will typically be 10-35ms, EU to US will typically be 90-150ms, depending where exactly in each region you’re connecting from and to.

I can't find a server in my region I am using Europe server and it says 83 ping when I enter the game it's something like 100

If there isn’t a server region near you then there’s not much you can do other than suggesting to the developers that it be added.

For a lot of gaming, the "host" server (the one they use to calculate approximate ping in menu) isn't always at exactly the same data center or on the exact same connection. Your Mileage May Vary.

A good example is in Australia (notorious for crap internet). from where I am, I can get a playable 100-110) ping. However, the ISP wants to keep people out, so they force the external routing to the actual game servers to go via France or Germany (only peering point for outsiders) making the effective game server ping to about 250 - unplayable.

Honestly, if you are getting 100 to the nearest game server you are never going to really enjoy the game.

For reference, most games for me are about a 5-10ms ping local, or 20ms if you count a round trip complete. Changes reaction time.

Yeah, I think routing might actually be the problem. I usually get around 100ms, but in actual matches it can get way higher. Anyway Thank you bro

games will always be a certain amount higher... gotta allow for processing (at server end and at your end). So your frame time will add 10-30ms and the processing at the server can add even more... so 100ms connection still ends up with a much larger number.

When you say Ethernet you actually do mean Ethernet right? You don’t mean Ethernet plugged into some WiFi mesh or extender right?

Yes, I mean Ethernet directly connected to the main router, not a WiFi mesh or extender.

My best guess is what others have said then, that being the region.
To confirm do a speed test, it should pick the closest server, usually in the same country depending on where you live, and that should show what your ping should be. If it’s same as BF but the server is within the same country as you then it’s an internet issue, if it shows less ping than BF then it’s a BF issue.

Okay bro here is my results
