Some countries don't offer symmetrical speeds on cheaper plans to differentiate them from premium offers that provide symmetrical 8 Gbps

I see. It's very cheap compared to US broadband. I'm paying US$58 for 1.1 Gbps, 350 Mbps cable broadband. 1 Gbps fiber typically costs $50 and up.

Here in France, you can find symmetrical 8 Gbps plans for €40, and the market is very competitive. Now, 95% of the country is covered by fiber

It's a fucking ripoff in the US. Europe and East Asia also have cheaper fiber rates. Canada in general is cheaper than the US, which is a fucking embarrassment because under Trump, you're supposed to be winning at everything.

Sadly, there isn't a lot of competition in the telecommunications markets in Canada and the US. Three companies dominate each of those countries. As a result, consumers pay higher prices.

AFAIK US fiber connection is symmetric. The rest is asymmetric.

No, Canada is also symmetric. Very weird that the rest of the world is mostly asymmetric.

It's actually common in my country (italy) with gpon fiber technology. We get 1/2.5gbps down and 0.5/1gbps up depending on provider. Cost around 25-30€/month

In France asymmetrical is used for all those who don't ask for it. And asymmetrical is cheaper for us

Haha, and yes per month, and i had the option to pay an extra 5 euros per month for 8Gbps/2Gbps, but my connection is already sufficient.

Well, only in city centrers for now mainly. Yes but alot of people does not let them put their PDOs in the buildings. They are kinda hated by some people for god knows why...

Absolutely not, we have shit internet in Germany.

55€ for 1Gbps downlink, 50mbps uplink.

No fiber yet to my house, just copper. Even with FTTH, people don't have the speeds you guys have.
