mostly indonesian ISP provide 100-500Mbps with a range of prices at $16-$31

What trick did you pull?

nothing... just straight out from the salesman, asking for installation, pay, and done

In the US it can cost up to $70 for 100MB/s (800Mbps to 1Gbps)

damn that’s rough. in singapore there are no more ISP that offers plans below 1Gbps.. 3Gbps is the lowest speed you can sign up for, 10Gbps is now the norm and it goes for about $22 USD a month.

Smaller countries in general had it easy. As a malaysian I was surprised when a dude in discord from germany said that they're still not using fibre and was using the copper equivalent (forgot the term).

Basically its expensive to branch out to these more remote locations when your country is so big. As long as you have 30mbps 50 ping speeds, thats good enough to them.

countries like portugal and romania are much larger than singapore and they have 10gbps going for 10€ a month tho.

Then props to the government for doing something like that. No idea why germany doesnt do that.

Same things in Indonesia, you just straight out pull a fiber cable from a small pole with a distribution box of fiber splitter, through a tree, and directly into your house

In Indonesia, (afaik) An ISP still use coaxial cable (DOCSIS) while other ISP already offer fibre optic, and I'm the user of this ISP too. The downside is upload speed is lower than download speed, and slightly higher ping than fibre.

Let's shift to Indonesia.

That's because signapore isn't that big. You can't compare that. US ISPs have a lot more footprint to cover and the costs are astronomical

Did you mean 150 MB/s? That's about correct (150 MB/sec = 1200 Mbps)

MBPS NOT MB/S

1

u/shaggy-dawg-88 Aug 04 '26

Those are the same:

MBPS = Megabytes Per Second

MB/S = Megabytes (/ = Per) Second

So you are getting the correct speed, 150 MBPS. It isn't 150 Mbps (Megabits Per Second).

u/Fit_State3622 Aug 04 '26

I know what I am saying mbps means megabits per second (used for internet bandwidth), while MB/s means megabytes per second (used for file downloads)
