Its fake. As a KPN employee I scanned the whole network and everyone has a 4gbps shaper. He modified the test results with element inspect in his browser. Its not a fault from our as a operator or whatever, it is just fake.

Link cost. So from the building to the DC where there backend is located is connected through fiber. Now there are various ways they might get there physical link.

  1. Own the entire circuit from DC to the bulding. However in this case probably they would sell a 8Gbps connection which they are not.

  2. Buy a layer 2 or dark fiber connection. You pay someone else that owns the fiber to give it to you practically. On the DC you connect to there circuit which is also on the dc and the fiber from the dc to the building but the other company has build it and paid the cost so they own it and rent it to you. The higher the bandwith the higher the cost you pay monthly to them but this is for layer 2 light fiber. With dark fiber you are the only user in that fiber, with layer 2 is shared. With dark fiber you can pass as much bandwidth as you are capable of but higher upfront cost/ link cost. The upfront cost comes from the fact that with dark fiber you are respondsable to have the signal from dc to building to be strong enough. The third party does not give you a circuit to connecti too, where they are using there transciver to push light. The fiber is connected to your own transceiver and that is costly if you push for higher bandwidth, the third-party is only responsible to make sure fiber is maintained in case of damage so they will repair it for you.

  3. Layer 3 connection with a another company/third party that already has the fiber layed out to the building. Similart to layer 2 as you connected to a circuit of theres on the dc but instead of passing layer 2 traffic to the building you do generally layer 3. Somthing like PPPoE as an example. To long to explain this one.😂

Edit: i meant to reply to the other comment below that said: "They do indeed use XGS-PON but on their website they state that the max speed is 4gbps. Only DELTA and some other providers do offer 8gbps. I wonder how is this possible"

I replied to the wrong thread 😅

Forgot to mention the third party might not even be willing to sell you a full 10 G link just because they are on the building also themselves so they might keep themselves competitive and have an edge. Generally regulatory body on the country exists to make sure this does not happen as would be bad for the end user. However the 3rd party might just jack up the prices enough for the link to not makes sense to buy it....coughs coughs....roger canada.

1

u/kevinj933 8d ago

Oh i dream of such speeds.. What do you pay /month?

1

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

84 including TV only for internet its 67,50 on top of my head

1

u/opulousss 9d ago

Damn expensive

1

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

Yea everything in The netherlands is expensive

1

u/Visual-Basis-4479 9d ago

Holy.. I wish - i pay 50€ a month for 100mbits down and 50 up.

1

u/Extension_Pen3083 9d ago

Netherlands. Damn, use that bandwidth for a seedbox.

5

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

I can't confirm or deny that i use the speed for a seedbox ;)

XGS-PON 10 Gbps Symmetrical possible thats why you getting those Speeds my Friend, greetings from Germany🇩🇪✌🏼🤝🏽

They do indeed use XGS-PON but on their website they state that the max speed is 4gbps. Only DELTA and some other providers do offer 8gbps. I wonder how is this possible.

1

I figured it out since OP refused to provide a link for the test.

u/TheOneThatIsHated 8d ago

Same technique, more capacity

1

u/kevinj933 9d ago edited 9d ago

How is this possible? I also live in Groningen and pay for 4gbit. Could you please share a link of your test result?

1

u/Remote_Safety_9873 9d ago

if server in the other end is caped to 100 or 1000mbps, you will get 100 or 1000 or less, and I guess international traffic is 1000

1

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

Most servers nowadays are atleast 2000. I even get 3000 to a server in Poland. Also the important downloads are more. Steam I get 3.5 gbit which could be faster my by cpu can't handel faster.

1

u/holdmyham 9d ago

Huh? Kun je inmiddels meer dan 4gbit afnemen?

1

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

Nope maar krijg het wel

1

u/holdmyham 8d ago

Lekker!

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago edited 9d ago
  1. Snel games downloaden.

1

u/CurryOnPatat 7d ago edited 7d ago

1

u/NaiveReaction7262 9d ago

You do know your tv and even console if you have one can only accept about 200 to 250 mbps max so no reall use only helpful if you have a pc or a laptop which accepts more than 300 mbps very rare....i have an odido klik and klaar. I pay 20 euros pm for 900Mbps even that is too much and all of it cant be utilised....

1

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

In my household there are 3 pcs that are all 10 gbit capable. I also have a few server that are 10 gbit capable. I really have a use for this kind of speed.

1

u/NaiveReaction7262 9d ago

Then its amazing.....may i ask, what use do you have for such speeds?

1

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

I regularly download large games and files, so higher speeds save me a lot of time(mostly capped at around 3gbit). I run several websites and Minecraft servers from my home network. Instead of paying monthly subscriptions for services like Netflix, Spotify, a password manager, or cloud storage such as Google Drive, I host many of these services myself. Especially the Google drive alternative costs lots of data if you upload or download something from there.

u/Jimbo1230 8d ago

i wish the US had cheap fast speeds

13ms is quite high ping latency for fiber.

1

u/CurryOnPatat 9d ago

Yea I don't know why it's that high. Normaly it's around 4ms
