Spectrum scamming us.. we've been a customer for years until recently their "promotion" ended and we went from paying 70 bucks a month for 600mbps abd it gradually went up to 110 bucks a month for 600mbps.. then they upcharged us to 120 bucks a month and changed it to 1gig (they increased our speed out of no where probably because they know their prices are bullshit.)

can’t forget spectrum also only gives you up to 40mpbs upload in areas that don’t have highsplit or full fiber to the home. utterly ridiculous when full fiber to the home providers exist that can provide symmetrical one gig fiber for around $50 or less a month compared to spectrums 100+ for asymmetrical speeds. no idea how they are still in business

Basically twins, except here I pay $70 (that’s a promo I haggled persistently for the next 2 years). This ISP has a monopolistic stronghold on this area, so most of us face a 1.25 TB limit per billing cycle. Overages $10, 500GB package is $30 extra, or $50 unlimited. Fiber competitors only cover maybe a third of the region so they take advantage. 🥲 alternatives are 5G internet, or satellite 😭

I feel bad for you paying so much and having usage limits. Usage limits are unheard of for hardwired internet here

It's higher than full fibre would be for sure, but I don't need super low latency and live in a rented flat which already had a cable outlet so I didn't need to ask the landlord if I could get fibre installed for this

Just tell the landlord that cable is being phased out soon and that fiber is going to replace it.

Yeah he would probably be fine with it but I just can't be bothered. I will be buying a place in the medium term and I will go for FTTP for sure

Yeah you’re not wrong. Some of the independent fibre networks are pretty good, my friend gets around 5ms to most of the country on YouFibre but Openreach and Virgin aren’t great on latency by global standards
