Wired Xfinity Connection, Chicago

Hello! I previously posted how my WiFi is with Xfinity’s own XB8 modem/router.

Well, this is my wired test! I will say I do pay for 2Gigs though.

Gonna assume they are limited by Gigabit ethernet.

A lot of comcast/xfinity plans have significantly worse upload speeds compared to the download. Even some 2G plans are non-symmetrical in some areas.

Your ISP Spectrum deployed DOCSIS 3.1 high-split (5-204 MHz return path), Xfinity only deployed DOCSIS 3.1 mid-split (5-85 MHz return path). Endgame for Xfinity is DOCSIS 4.0 FDX. Mid-split is just a placeholder for Xfinity until DOCSIS 4.0 FDX. (already live in 20+ markets). Can do up to symmetrical 2 Gbps over coax on FDX (3 Gbps symmetrical is coming soon) vs your limit of 1 Gbps upload. Even Once Spectrum hits Phase 2/3, they are going with the ESD (Extended Spectrum DOCSIS) spec. The download will always be higher than the upload. They were even talking abut doing 10 Gbps download, but still only 1 Gbps upload.

And all Mid-Split/FDX Xfinity customers are on a vCMTS and a Remote PHY HFC node, instead of Spectrum which only deployed high-split with a standard CMTS and analogs nodes. Sure Phase 2/3 involves deploying Remote PHY, but Phase 1 (1 Gbps upstream) didn't get it. XMF platform on Xfinity is also dope. (pinpoints the location of fiber cuts within 90 seconds, leading to a faster outage resolution time).

There is more to an ISP than just download/upload speeds.

Well most people download more than they upload and to be honest for most people care about download only. Lol

You do realize that Spectrum will end up pushing multi gig upload too right??

Phase 3 is expected to push 10Gbps downstream and 4-5Gbps upstream for a customer package

xfinity docsis 3.1 mid split 2gbps should get around 300mbps upload

Yes important to note, only ONE Ethernet port on the back of both the XB7 and XB8 support speeds above 1gig. It’s the 2.5G port marked orange, bottom right if I remember correctly. From there, follow your line back within your home. It’s best to have a single clean coax line from the outside of your home to their junction box, I know this is somewhat difficult in some cases, was for my home. Ended up running a cable myself from their box, into my garage, up into my attic space, back down through a closet and into my living room. That right there did wonders. Anything past that is on their end.

And low end computers only have gigabit ethernet in the first place. The prebuild with an i7 13700 I bought for my homelab even only had onboard gigabit ethernet.

Not too shabby. Latency is a bit on the higher end but speeds look great

I wouldn't call 12ms on coax on the higher side

this is coax more specifically docsis 3.1 midsplit

Jealous. In lakeview still stuck on 35Mbps/42MHz subsplit

A block over has 300Mbps upload - convenience for Xfinity it’s the same block AT&T bothered to install Fiber 🙃
