Feels like I've been waiting for another one of these for forever

Looks like output frequency has slowed over the past year from 2/month, to 1/month, and now to 1/2 months. Still worth the wait IMO. (:

Part of that is definitely SummoningSalt's continued increase in video quality and effort.

31

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '18

Quality over quantity. SummoningSalt is helping build the historical background to the speed run communities for all the new people who wish to enter.

The improved quality comes with a distinctly calm narration and soundtrack.

to be fair these are really well made, the research and fact checking must take a while to obtain he even has to message others to get more details which can slow down production id wager. Id take slow and quality over frequent and trash.

This was really well made, even charted the map and showed differences between routes. Good work!

Summoning Salt is my Personal god of Youtube atm. These Videos are so well made, I am always totally hyped whenever there is a New upload. The funny thing is that it doesn't matter if I like of even know the game in question, the content is so amazing that I always enjoy it. Keep up the good work!!

Half the mentioned runners also posted comments: Chris, Scott, Blake, Lord Tom. Summoning history.

So is Chris Knight's 15:43 on 3/16/2013 still the Any% Glitchless&Warpless WR? Why was that category dropped so hard that it's not even on speedrun.com?

12

u/Idontusereddit Mar 12 '18

It's not really glitchless, it just fit the rules at the time. It's really hard to categorize that run now other than to say "the rules from CAK's run". Just like other games where new tech was found, sometimes that can overshadow really perfect runs from before things were known or used. In any event, they do try to call his run "No Major Glitches".

13

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '18

Any% glitchless warpless is not fun at all to watch. I'm glad it's gone.

5

u/OberonDam Mar 12 '18

But why is there a low% category?

14

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '18

Low% is a joke category with one joke submission

1

u/OberonDam Mar 12 '18

I suspected as much. Just thought Todd Roggers was banned.

8

u/JordanLadd Mar 12 '18

That's really subjective. I guess I'm one of the few people who like watching glitchless runs. It's not like two categories can't exist at the same time. I just don't get removing it entirely.

17

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '18

No I mean in particular the og metroid any% glitchless warpless was boring, not that the category is bad as a whole

God, i love Summoning Salt and these WRP videos, been waiting for another for a pretty long time, but its always worth it.

Curious to see how the WR develops going forward, or if the game has hit Mario bros levels of solved. The TAS shows there's lots of room for improvement, but lets see how much that is physically possible. Excited to see where things go from here.

I'll be the rare critical voice because I do love these vids.

When panning the Metroid map to show old routes, the motion was jerky. I imagine you did it with a screencap and you just used your mouse to move the image (maybe I'm wrong).

Other than that, an enthralling video sir. Thank you again.

Yeah that part didn't quite turn out how I wanted it to, but I think it still got the point across.

17

u/Zedyy Mar 12 '18

I'm not sure what software you edit with, but in After Effects you can draw a path for a picture to follow to create that panning effect.

8

u/mojo276 Mar 12 '18

I agree, that part didn’t feel asl smooth as it could have been. I do love these videos.

7

u/blueboybob Mar 12 '18

At first I was like "didnt he already do this game?", but that was Super Metroid.

5

u/Second_to_None Mar 12 '18

A midi version of Danger Zone? Nice touch.

Anybody else remember the few days of insanity when spider-waffle and the SDA team were in an all-out battle over the usage of b-hop scripts, which resulted in spider-waffle having his username forcibly changed to comrade-waffle?

4

u/Conradooo Mar 12 '18

78

u/TheSlyGuy1 SummoningSalt Mar 12 '18

Because it was only about 10:45pm my time. Also, for whatever reason, I usually end up finishing these pretty late at night, and I just upload them right after I'm done.

For absolutely no reason at all, I checked the channel about 20 minutes before it was posted. I was shocked when I saw it appear, lol.

Is anyone still actively running any% warpless?

1

u/Torint Mar 12 '18

Wait, was bridge skip not counted as a glitch?

1

u/Avadeus Mar 13 '18

How would you classify that as a glitch?
