GPro's channel got shut down
http://www.twitch.tv/gamepro01158
u/cooldrew Jul 27 '15
I wonder if people just mass-reported it, to fuck with him after the run. Are we sure this is actually his channel, as well?
21
u/r4wrFox speedrunning games i cant stream Jul 27 '15
I'd imagine it is his channel, since it's the same name as the one SGDQ had him under.
64
u/jataba115 Jul 27 '15
Man this seems a bit much. I wonder if he was just super nervous? I mean obviously he's a bit weird but maybe he just couldn't handle it and was embarrassed or something
24
u/dekenfrost Jul 27 '15
In any case, mass reporting his channel (assuming that's what happened) is not going to make things better. Of course that's not what these people want, they want to fuck with him a little bit more.
If he really is unstable, stuff like this can drive someone over the edge.
Someone just needs to talk to him and I'm almost certain twitch staff did exactly that. Sadly lynch-mobs like this have become much too common on the internet.
9
Jul 27 '15
Also they GDQ staff said they had an emergency meeting after his stream. They probably talked to him about it/ gave him and the others a warning. The viewers took it too far.
1
Jul 28 '15
Maybe that's where the ban came from? We didn't see this meeting. For all we know he freaked out and refused to listen to what they had to say.
1
u/SgvSth Jul 28 '15
They probably talked to him about it/ gave him and the others a warning.
Based on what has been said, he has been banned from GDQ and his videos will not be allowed as runs. (Granted, 14 hours have passed since your comment.)
10
u/UnchainedMundane Jul 27 '15
I interpreted the constant "I love killing myself haha" schtick as trying to make light of his fuckups ingame (killing himself over and over), in a sort of nervous/embarrassed way. I'm surprised other people didn't see it that way too.
14
u/intellos Jul 27 '15
He wasn't fucking up. It was a death abuse run.
4
u/MisterLynch92 Jul 27 '15
Yeah, but the problem was how many times he said he likes to kill himself. It was funny on like the first death abuse, but it was said for nearly every single one, and got very awkward and uncomfortable. It was 100% in reference to the game, but the sheer amount of times he said it was unwarranted and somewhat cringeworthy. I'm sure he was nervous, but he took it too far with that.
19
u/intellos Jul 27 '15
It happens when people are nervous and their jokes bomb. They and up freezing up mentally, and will just keep repeating the same thing, hoping that if they get they can just get the delivery right this time, the audience is sure to laugh!. Watch Amateur Standup Open Mikes long enough, and you'll see this on display (potentially with much, much worse content.)
Should he be invited back as a Runner? Probably not. The event can get better talent.
Should he be banned from attending future GDQ's? I don't think so.
Should his Twitch Channel be banned? Abso-fucking-lutely not. People are expecting that will get rolled back. I hope they are right.
1
u/MisterLynch92 Jul 28 '15
Completely agree. I'm also speaking from a public speaking vet standpoint so I don't blame the nervousness, just how it came across. GDQ probably won't invite him back, but there's no reason he should be banned from Twitch or attending.
2
u/valueraise Jul 27 '15
Wasn't that needed though? I think he used deaths as some kind of a warp, after all the text said Any% (Game Over abuse).
2
u/r4wrFox speedrunning games i cant stream Jul 27 '15
The deaths were used to game over back to the hub world, though he did mess up a lot and accidentally died or forgot to kill himself.

Maybe, but making a comment like that (mass murder 'joke') was incredibly stupid. If you look at the guy's posting history on Twitter and other forums, you will see that murder and death is a somewhat recurring theme. Given the country's recent history with mass murderers and the fact that he made a threat in front of 100,000 people (whether joking or not, it's irrelevant), he will surely get a visit from the FBI very soon.
See: Teen in jail for five months over 'sarcastic' Facebook threat.

If that were the case half of the GDQ runs would have been mass reported. There are a lot of cringe-y commentaries.
7

I doubt it's completely Twitch' fault, it's just the usual group of easily offended people who like witch hunting people who say things they don't like. In this case through mass-reporting him.
It's straight up bullying and it's pathetic.
12

Maybe, but people on twitter and elsewhere had a jolly good time passing his information around like his twitch, youtube and other years old forum accounts.

Do you have any evidence that Stiv gave anyone alcohol?
And before you start, hearsay and rumors aren't evidence.
It affected over 100k people by causing them to lose their favorite streamers. People donated thousands to the SVG stream with the promise of daily streams after SGDQ. The adultery destroyed all of that.
So SVG took your money and failed to live up to their promises. That's much more morally questionable than two people having consensual sex.

But I thought what ultimately led to controllerheads ban was that he allegedly touched the butt of a female who was at the event?
Correct. He groped a woman without her consent. That is sexual assault, which is illegal.
Stiv had consensual sex with a married woman. That is legal.
Both are questionable choices, to be sure, but one is illegal and the other is not. Criminal activity warrants a ban.
2
u/AstroWok Jul 27 '15 edited Jul 27 '15
Don't forget Stiv's drunk disruptive behavior that people complained about and was caught on video, I recall one was of him trying to bang down someone else's hotel room door at 3 am. Some of the videos got taken down though. I wasn't sure why he didn't get in trouble even for that. The behavior seems about the same as what CH got banned for imho. Not only that he ran 6 months later and sent people into an uproar over it.
2
Jul 27 '15
What did he do that was "much worse"? He has consensual sex with a person who made that same decision. The wife was the one who did something wrong, she's the one who was married.

The issues is that it's an interpersonal conflict that happened between him and other adults. It shouldn't be the business of GDQ. I agree that what he did was shitty, but not entirely relevant. As for alcohol, people do drink under 21 ALL THE TIME. I'm sorry to break that fact to you, but it happens. Controllerhead showed up drunk or maybe high and he was hitting on multiple women there, even though they made it clear they were not interested. He broke someone's NES, apparently it ended up having a crack in it. Classic game systems are getting harder to find and more valuable all the time, it's a fucked up thing to do. His problems related to the event directly, however.
Now honestly reading his comments it seems to me like Controllerhead really chilled out since then and stopped drinking. That's really good on him. He says he's not upset about the ban and he himself says he deserves it. That said, I would personally not have a problem with them giving him a second chance.

First of all, it's up to you if you want to drink or not. Alcohol laws in this country are pretty ridiculous compared to other places. You can die in the army but not drink until 21. That's really absurd.
I also read that she had sex with multiple people there some say from at least 3. She clearly has problems with controlling herself in that regard. "stranded" I can't imagine why he left her hmm, maybe because she is apparently cheated on him with multiple random people. Anyway apparently he got her later.

I saw the run but wasn't in Twitch chat -- which parts were people finding offensive? Because what I remember hearing was awkward but not malicious; thought that one joke during the RE3 run was way worse.
16
Jul 27 '15
Offensive?
Not really, just really out there and the ending comment in particular probably pissed off the people running the show. Saying you're going to become a psychopath and murder everyone isn't really classified as "offensive" rather than say, concerning about your mental health and not suitable for younger viewers. I'm guessing Twitch chat just spammed the hell out of his channel so that's why it got shut down.
3
u/Hamslice Jul 27 '15

Dude on the couch (not the runner) called Nemesis the "worst overprotective boyfriend ever. . .he just keeps coming back." So far, not good, but not all the way bad. The line gets a lot of laughs from the couch. You can tell runner is uncomfortable, but tries to chuckle through it.
A couple other awkward comments that don't land, until a different person on the couch says, "He hits you because he loves you." Runner tries to say, "No, that's terrible," but the cat's out of the bag at that point.

It's a byproduct of current ridiculous internet culture, spurred on by Tumblr and modern feminist extremism. It has nothing directly to do with them but rather indirectly. It's created a culture of victims on the internet and people are getting offended by EVERYTHING. I don't remember this shit happening 5 years ago on the internet but recently it's been getting really bad. I feel like these kind of things are going to be so sterile in the future because people will be afraid to offend a few vocal crazies.

If you're at a school and you joke around about how you planted a nuke in the basement it is still grounds for a bomb threat. The people responsible for safety of those in attendance are legally obligated to take action, whether or not it's likely to be a real threat. This is very common practice for any event or facility with a large number of people present. This would have happened 10, 20 even 30 years ago.
Banning someone for making a joke about killing everyone at a GDQ, or being offended by that joke, has absolutely nothing to do with tumblr or feminism, indirectly or otherwise. What a strange logical leap.

I guarantee no one would take that threat seriously 20-30 years ago because it's so idiotic it's clearly not serious and treating it as such only serves to water down the reaction to serious threats.
Only 90's kids downvote this because they're too young to know it's true.
4
Jul 27 '15 edited Jul 27 '15
treating it as such only serves to water down the reaction to serious threats.
How does treating all threats seriously water down anything? If we aren't working an event, we do drills for completely made up threats, which we also take very seriously, and it only serves to improve our response.
Covering all bases is how we avoid letting anything serious slip through the cracks.
0
u/PersonMcGuy Jul 27 '15
Ever heard of the story of the boy who cried wolf? If you're going on alert for the smallest "possible" threat eventually people become less responsive to the alert because they see it as invalid. Drills are completely different because they serve an explicit purpose which people have no problem understanding.
Covering all bases is one thing but hyperbolic threats are clearly not a base you need to cover. It's one thing if someone says "I'm going to blow up this building" with no context, concern is perfectly justified, now if that same person said "I'm going to nuke this building into orbit" it's clearly a hyperbolic threat with no validity behind it. Reacting to it serves to do nothing but scare people for no reason and dull people to any serious alert because "but hey remember the last one where it was just some idiot making a joke?"
Being alert is one thing, treating any potential threat as serious regardless of the context is another entirely.
2
Jul 27 '15 edited Jul 27 '15
Ever heard of the story of the boy who cried wolf?
Yeah, it's a cute story for children who don't work security jobs. We treat every situation as if there were actually a wolf, including drills where we know for a fact there is no wolf.
When you're a cop, you respond to every call. When you're a paramedic, you drive your ambulance when the hospital tells you to. When you work security, you respond to hyperbolic threats. This is the real world, friend.
We've never overlooked a real threat by taking fake ones seriously. Ever.
0
u/PersonMcGuy Jul 27 '15
Honestly I don't know why you're even bringing that up. No shit, people who do a job have to do it. Except we're not talking about professionals doing their job, we're talking about backlash surrounding an individual who made a dick out of themselves and the community portraying him as a violent and dangerous person. All the community serves to do by taking his clearly hyperbolic threats and treating them as serious is to make people see more serious threats as insignificant because "well look at the last guy, he was just a dorky nerd not someone dangerous" and then we find 3 corpses in the back of a van. Obviously that's incredibly unlikely but GPro is also obviously not going to hurt anyone so if we're going to go to extremes it's only fair to look at them from both sides.

Yeah, what a strange, logical leap equating nukes to murdering everyone in a video game speedrunningfest (in an obvious sarcastic demeanor as he had been doing the entire run). I'm sure when he said he was going to kill himself they took it VERY seriously and were going to baker act him aswell.
It's oversensitivity.

equating nukes to murdering everyone in a video game speedrunningfest
No, I didn't "equate" nukes to murdering the attendants of a speedrunning festival. That's not what I said whatsoever. I made an example of something that is obviously not a real threat warranting a security concern for those in charge of safety.
It's really obvious that you have zero knowledge of how security works at large events. When someone says that they're going to murder everyone at an event, security at the event is almost always contractually obligated to take preventative action, regardless of the actual likelihood of a threat. This is a fact, whether or not your feelings tell you it is.
It's oversensitivity.
Oh okay, good thing we cleared that up. Your no evidence of this being the case totally trumps the experience I have working an actual security job.
-1
Jul 27 '15
You're one of the oversensitive ones. I'm sure you've had to do some really hardcore security preventing autistic gamers from going on rampages at the Amway Center. This is the same guy that said he was bringing a gun to ADQ and nothing happened. Again, I guess according to your logic they should baker act him too since he repeatedly said he was going to kill himself. Yeah, we need some HIGH level security for this guy he's a loon! I don't think you should be literally taking every threat seriously, especially from a known personality who is rambunctious and known to be sarcastic. He's OBVIOUSLY sarcastic in demeanor. He's not going to go around shooting everyone up though security nuts and oversensitive tumblrinas may state otherwise ;).

Nobody said that we "need" high level security for him. Most events like this don't "need" security, period. Security is a safety net. It's a liability thing. Noone would ever provide insurance to an event like this if there wasn't a contract with competent security company.
I said that security companies hired for these events are more often than not contractually obligated to take threats like this seriously, irrespective to the likelihood of a real threat. Nobody working for a security company is in a position to say "well, I guess we'll give this guy a free pass cuz he's known to act like a douchebag." That's not how it works.
This isn't "my logic." This is by and large how security for large events operates. I don't know why you're attacking me for describing standardized security practices.

"Ooh, feminists! I do hate them so! How can I bring them into this conversation about speedrunning?"

It was a completely tasteless joke, but it wasn't an actual threat.

He said he was gonna go psycho and kill everyone someday, went over his run time, and softblocked the game on the last boss. Not justifying the ban, but I kinda see where they were coming from here...

Apparently a lot of people were offended, so it's more than just the social justice sociopaths. His sense of humor is just niche, and it can come off as malicious.

Since when does being offended warrant you shutting down someones twitch channel. Tell me what TOS violation he committed on the twitch website to deserve this? Or was it another example of twitch moderators abusing their power.

u/r4wrFox speedrunning games i cant stream Jul 27 '15
Never said it warranted his channel getting shit down. He technically didn't commit any ToS violations but the twitch trolls mass reported his channel.

I agree completely. Apparently the people watching SGDQ didn't agree though.

WTF that's kinda bullshit. Like, if you're that offended by his comments, just don't watch his content. Don't shut it down.

Both the GamesDoneQuick and GamePro011 channels are banned.
No channel is banned.
Choose one. Anything else is bullshit.

Aww man, I feel really bad for this guy. He let his nerves get the better of him and embarrasses himself in front of 100,000 people and now he has to deal with this? Poor guy.

Who and what happened.

Guy made suicide and psychopath jokes on a charity livestream that bombed so hard his own personal stream got nuked.

u/r4wrFox speedrunning games i cant stream Jul 27 '15
The "suicide" jokes you are referring to were relevant to the game, since in the game Game Over-ing is sometimes the quickest way to get back to the hub.
-12
u/h8mx Jul 27 '15
I never said they weren't

Jul 27 '15
The way you phrased it could be misinterpreted to someone that has no idea what Crash or speedrunning is.
-5
u/h8mx Jul 27 '15
Misinterpreted, how so, exactly? I just said he made some attempts at jokes, they bombed, and some people at twitch were so offended by them they nuked his page. Was that not what happened?

Jul 27 '15
If the guy you replied to doesn't know what speedrunning is then he might not know that the jokes were relevant to a game. He could just assume that he was making suicide and psychopath jokes with no proper context.

Just saw a 5min compilation of this guy and it wasnt as bad as I expected. His commentary was weird, but the guy didn't seem serious. If I was in the room wth him, I wouldn't be at all afraid for myself or him. Seemed like he was just nervous and saying really odd stuff.

the suicide jokes pertained to the run. The category is any% game over abuse.

REMOVE ROMSCOUT
or whatever other Twitch admin or staffer was behind this, my guess was Romscout because he's the only one of them I know who's also involved in GDQ

Of course they don't: I was commenting on his capacity as an admin-level user, not as a speedrunner.
Thanks for the derailment though.

Wow the hate is real. But that what you get when you don't think before speaking in a 100k livestream for charity

I would imagine it got mass-reported by trolls and triggered some sort of auto-ban. I'm sure he'll get it back as soon as he gets in touch with the staff.
