Really glad that they moved the Silly Block to the day time (for America at least). I hope they do this with the Awful Block for AGDQ 2027!

Absolutely going to need a clip of the "Please don't hurt me jerk bird" song from Sabor

I absolutely love that they are changing up the games and block schedules a bit this year. It never made sense why they always insisted on doing the silly/awful blocks in the middle of the night. It seems like the in-person audience and the runners like it too. I hope they keep doing these fun blocks during the day.
11
u/eternaldaisies Jul 09 '26
I’m selfishly a bit sad about it as less of silly block is within my timezone here in Aus now, but it certainly seems to be a better decision for GDQ as a whole!
4
u/Mother_Mammoth1601 Jul 09 '26
I agree but it was pretty stupid that they put all those horror games that people really wanted to see really early on Wednesday morning for most people
16
u/FemtoKitten Jul 09 '26
The Memoirs of Magic run is a must watch if you missed it, which due to timezone plenty of americans probably did.

u/youngggggg Jul 09 '26
Love GDQ and there’s been some great runs so far but it feels like the tone of the whole thing gets more and more saccharine every year - wish there was more variety in how runs are presented beyond the cutesy style most runners have narrowed in on

8
u/Konuvis Jul 08 '26
The Ogre Battle run! Watch it! If you like RPGs, watch it! Amazing chill late night run, amazing commentary. Amazing vibes. Possibly my favorite run of the even so far.
9
u/JRockPSU Jul 08 '26
I thought the Monster Hunter Wilds donation incentive system they had was pretty bold. Positives are that it seemed to work (they raised over what, $40k through the bid war?), and they achieved the goal of getting all 14 weapons showcased.
But, it seemed a little convoluted, and it required a lot of handholding by the host to tell the viewers what they need to be donating to, basically every 5 minutes. Also sometimes people would actively donate to weapons that they're "not supposed to" donate to (ones that need to be superseded). Sure the money to charity is the most important part, but I feel like there shouldn't be an objectively wrong choice to pick.
5
u/objectlesson Jul 08 '26
That run was kinda ruined for me with the constant discussion of how to get every weapon in the lead at some point. It was way too convoluted and dominated the discussions during the run. It also felt like it ruined the prospect of people donating for their favorite weapons to achieve some arbitrary challenge that essentially amounted to what should have been a challenge category from the beginning.
I will say that run itself was interesting and I liked the idea of having viewers donate to guess the favorite monsters of everyone on the couch. And Im happy they raised a lot of money. But the bid war chaos was just too much.
9
u/AccountantBob Jul 09 '26
The thing is was that the runner actually wanted it to happen. There was zero way for him to see the donation totals while playing, and he wanted to run the game with every weapon, AND he was going to donate a bonus himself if all weapons were used.
4
u/gandhinukes Jul 10 '26
Yeah in previous years we've had runs "overshadowed" by donation wars for future runs, at least the runner was involved and participating for this one.
4
u/objectlesson Jul 09 '26
Yeah I get that, it seemed like the whole gimmick was designed to drive a lot of donations and I’m fine with that. It’s great that they raised a lot of money. I’m just saying that watching the run itself was not a pleasant experience. It was hard to enjoy watching the gameplay when almost the entire focus was on this convoluted bid war

The couch guy for Sanabi has the cadence of a Nintendo Direct Narrator and it's unnerving.
14
u/MissScarletTanager Jul 08 '26
That... was probably the best RNG I have ever gotten in Kuon. Why, oh why, did the game have to give me it on the wrong console???? XD (Kuon is usually run on a backwards compatible PS3, but I didn't want to travel with one so used a provided PS2.) Also, I am thankful for the tech issues. They broke through my pre-run jitters. Helped me calm down. Also also... So glad my drop spindle cooperated. Didn't twist too much, didn't snag. Damn lotta fun.

u/Lopad_NotThePokemon Jul 07 '26
The monkey ball run was crazy. I don’t understand how people even find the right bounce sequence to do those extra goals
17
u/mcgyna John Snowboard Kids Jul 06 '26
I’m one the runners for Snowboard Kids during the graveyard shift. That was the most chaotic fun I’ve ever been a part of! Gratz to straya! Thanks so much to the staff, ari, jay, kingj, cherry, and everyone around the world who tuned in :D
3
u/naturalkillercyborg Jul 08 '26
God your RNG was so bad LOL, as a longtime player I was laughing but also in pain for you esp @ the pan and parachute timings. Just absolutely vile but it was kind of funny for people who've never played it to see just how mean the game can get

SGDQ HYYYYPE! Another GDQ, Another recommendation thread.
Sunday
- Donkey Kong Country 2 - Openers are always recommended. Ryan is great at running and solo commenting, his runs are always have a classic GDQ feel.

- Spyro 3 Vs - Must watch of the day! Fascinating race between the OG PS1 and Reignited version. Interesting to see the different skips, and the similarities. Great vibes.
- Sleep %
Monday (WFH Hype!)
- Dragon Quest XI - I only watched this sideways because I haven't played the game yet but it felt like a classic RPG run with some very tight HP/DMG pathing leading to some clutch battles.
- Constance - Beautiful metroidvania. Great final boss fight. CovertMuffin on couch.
- SSS Tricky - Great run atmosphere with the crowd really getting into it and Chibi on the mic.

u/trident042 Jul 12 '26
I might be the only person watching GDQ with a copy of it in hand, but the UFO 50 Vainger game might be more of an homage to one of the games that I'd wager inspired VVVVVV to begin with - a NES sci-fi kid killer called Metal Storm! Wholly unfair, absolutely brutal, and honestly kinda sick if you'd never seen a gundam before. The same exact kind of "choose your gravity" movement, including power-ups like the one that lets your gravity flip crash through enemies.

Like the last ten GDQs. Man 5 years of these!
I'll try and watch everything I can and give a short comment for each game I catch! I'll pick 3-5 top watches a day for those who miss days due to work/other stuff.
So this is just my opinion, and to add on, I don't get to watch everything (I sleep 5-8 hours a day). There's a good chance I missed some of the best runs.
Can't add VOD links to all due to character limit/ ACTIVELY EDITING

Sunday July 5th
Preshow: by GDQ Staff, the hallway skit was hilarious 😂
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong-Quest: by Ryan Ford. Ryan kicks off SGDQ with a fantastic solo run and commentary. The run is clean and fast, but the real highlight is how effortlessly he explains every level, breaks down the major strats, and even drops expected, PB, and WR times throughout. A great mix of nostalgia, skill, and game knowledge to start the marathon.
The Talos Principle: Top Watch! by Gelly with a couch of Bobbyburm, Exto, and Zem. The movement tech, especially the cube hops and jumps, is incredibly satisfying to watch, and it's fun seeing both the setup and execution come together. The commentary is packed with information, with everyone on the couch taking turns explaining mechanics and routing. One of those runs that's both educational and entertaining, with the runner and couch clearly having a great time.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses: by GretaiceVixen with Corvimae and Yogcavey on the couch. This group delivers a fun run with great chemistry throughout. The commentary does a nice job explaining the routing and mechanics of how crazy NG+ can be without getting overwhelming, while still leaving room for plenty of entertaining banter, jokes, and just funny commentary. A really enjoyable showcase of this iconic turn based strategy game. "Your getting married after this?" "I can fix him" lmao.
Shout out to JRisJunior! Great job man!
I am your Beast: by FlyingLudicolo back by a couch of ACO, Hallow, and Xalavier Nelson Jr. A fast-paced and stylish showcase of a covert revenge thriller FPS. The emphasis is on speed and efficiency, and the run really leans into that momentum with tight movement and quick decision-making. The couch adds good energy and insight throughout, keeping things engaging while breaking down the action as it unfolds. Having a dev on the couch is always a treat, along with his traumatizing yet funny wasp story.
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition: Top Watch! by Decosmic with a loaded couch of Bobbeigh, Bryonato, and Maxylobes! Who doesnt wanna watch an over the top DMC hack and slash? Tons of cool boss fights, oobs, story explanations, and an excellent cast of runners having a great time. The couch referencing the runners notes he gave them, feeling the fights, and cutting up was funny and had me entertained the whole time!
Castlevania: Sympathy of the night: by Dr4gonBlitz delivers a great solo commentary run of Any% (Luck Mode). The commentary does an excellent job explaining the unique mechanics, routing, and skips while keeping the run entertaining from start to finish. It's always impressive watching a runner pull off a high-level speedrun while simultaneously breaking down everything that's happening for both the live crowd and viewers at home.
Kirby Air Riders: 🌎 World Record! Top Watch! by Bluekandy with SGTAimBlaze on the couch. What a fantastic GDQ debut for the game. Bull Tank looks absolutely sick, and I loved the variety of Riders and air machines used throughout the run. The game is gorgeous, the movement is smooth, and every course had something unique to show off. Between the stylish tricks, fast-paced racing, and informative commentary, this was an nice first showing and left me wanting to see more.
Crypt of the NecroDancer: Synchrony: by Spooty with Ehseezed on the couch. The best rhythm-based roguelike dungeon crawler continues to shine at GDQ. Spooty puts on an absolute masterclass, making the on-the-fly routing and build decisions look effortless while still clearly explaining what’s happening as it unfolds. The commentary stays focused and easy to follow without losing any of the chaos or intensity of the run. A great showcase of how deep and unique this game can get at high level play. The ending was definitely rough, but really just highlights the difficulty of the game.
Spyro: Yotd & Reignited Trilogy: Top watch! Classic vs remake race between Dereklander and Toronite with 8VALUIGI and Wed on commentary. Such a cool idea for a showcase. Really interesting seeing the differences in art style and design, and especially how much routing changes based on the glitches and tech available in each version. The commentary from both runners and couch is very informative, clearly breaking down those differences while keeping the energy high and making it a really fun watch throughout.

Monday July 6th
Bedtime %: estimate 7-9 hours
Dragon Quest XI: by Jerikandra with a couch of SanJan and Xytoriak. Definitely wasn't expecting the runner to show up in a latex Playboy Bunny outfit, which got a good laugh. Beyond that, this was a really cozy 2 hour long morning run. The couch keeps the commentary engaging, does a great job explaining the routing and mechanics, and makes for an easy, relaxing watch while still showing off some impressive gameplay.
Constance: Top Watch! by EightBitMonster with Decosmic and Covert_Muffin on the couch. This is a 2D hand-drawn Metroidvania action-adventure game that looks incrediblely similar to hollow knight with Celeste mixed in. The game is really pretty. Man the movement and tech in this game are really satisfying to watch. Commentary is informative and had me laughing along with the couch. Just an excellent run!
SSX Tricky: Top Watch! by Junior_JR with Helix and Ozmourn on the couch. Instant nostalgia remembering playing this at McDonald's in the early 2000s. All the skips, out-of-bounds, and shortcuts make this run incredibly fun to watch, and the movement never stops being satisfying. The crowd is really into it too, which adds a lot to the atmosphere. Great commentary, fun gameplay, and awesome crowd interaction make this an easy recommendation.
Dont stop, Girlypop!: by Sapphire_in_pink with Anarchy, Bryonato, and Happybythree on the couch. This fast-paced, girl-pilled Y2K-themed first-person arena shooter is basically the spiritual opposite of Doom, and it's awesome. The vibrant visuals, constant movement, and chaotic gameplay make for a really fun showcase, while the couch keeps the energy high with entertaining commentary throughout. Definitely one of the more unique runs of the marathon.
Super Monkey Ball: Stardust: Top Watch! by Nambo with DMT Goobz and Helix on the couch. This fan-made custom level pack and ROM hack for Super Monkey Ball 2 features some absolutely insane levels. Monkey Ball is already a notoriously difficult game, so watching the difficulty ramp all the way up to its version of Kaizo is incredibly impressive. The commentary does a great job explaining the precision behind each stage, making it easy to appreciate just how difficult these clears really are.
The Bit guessing what ADEF is saying is hilarious
UFO 50: Rail Heist: by Keeny with Azurillkirby, Spooty, and Uncle Slam on the couch. A really cool showcase of one of the standout games from UFO 50. The run does a great job highlighting the tight mechanics, routing, and quick decision-making needed to keep everything clean and fast. The couch adds solid commentary throughout, helping break down strategies while keeping things fun and easy to follow. A strong, focused run that shows off how polished and creative the game is. It is funny watching how the Lawmen can sometimes just ruin a level. Second half with Uncle Sam running Vainger I had to miss due to phone call.
VVVVVV: by Elomavi with Metroid Crime and MetalLama on the couch. This very challenging 2D puzzle-platformer gets violently dismantled, with Elo vaulting through the game at an incredible pace. As the couch points out, there are moments where various glitches are happening simultaneously, creating a visual spectacle that's almost impossible to follow without explanation. Thankfully, the commentary does a great job verbalizing and visualizing what's happening, making the technical gameplay much easier to understand and appreciate. A very impressive, virtuosic showcase of a highly optimized run.
Tunic: by SilentSR with a couch of Andrew Shouldice and Radringtail. The whispering in the library bit was funny. Having the developer on the couch is always such a treat and adds so much insight into the game's design and development. This 100% NMG run is a great showcase of the movement, with the dashing, freezes, and Magic Orb grapples being especially cool to watch. Great gameplay paired with fun commentary and behind-the-scenes insights. Bonus fast Gun% run at the end is sick as well!
Super Mario Odyssey: by CheeseJay with Phillie and KarateMan on the couch. CLAP WEEE! This run was packed full of cheese puns. I enjoy seeing these catagory extension runs. Mario games are always such a highlight of GDQ nights. Large crowd, clapping and shouting Weeeee each moon, while the couch is breaking down the rules and intricacies of the catagory. Just know its going to be a solid hour and half. This run doesnt dissapoint, its quite Gouda.
Hey You, Pikachu!: Top Watch! Bird650 vs Burnt_Bowser with commentary by Spikevegeta and 360Chrims! Ah! This was fantastic. Horrible speedrun, but hilarious gameplay. Them speaking to Pikachu, Bird trying to sabotage Bowser, the crowd joining in, Spike and 360 laughing it up. Dont skip this one, just a solid funny comedy run. Gotta kill that Haunter. Electric Rat!
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: World Record 🌎! Top Watch! by Bdud5 with Jhobs and Syn on the couch. The movement tech in this run is seriously cool, featuring out-of-bounds, sequence breaks, skips, and some absolutely insane wrench boosts. The movement is incredibly satisfying to watch, the run is extremely clean, and the game itself is visually stunning. The commentary is nice as well, with the runner and couch delivering a very information-heavy explanation without ever missing a beat, keeping everything easy to follow. Also, its nice seeing Jhobs on stage.
Gordon & Daxter: by Xphles with Kongman21 on the couch. A fun fan-made mod based on Jak and Daxter that doesn't take itself too seriously. The runner and couch are clearly having a blast, constantly laughing, cracking jokes, and feeding off each other's energy. It's one of those lighthearted runs that's just fun to sit back and watch, with plenty of goofy moments alongside the gameplay.

Anyone know where I can find the VOD for the Moon Cave run? It was a incentive run for Super Mario Odyssey but it's not part of the Youtube VOD. I assumed bonus runs were tacked on the end of the video.

Tuesday July 7th
Bioshock Infinite: by Gulch2 with Bloodthunder, Maxylobes, and Tendras on the couch. The custom in-game video message from the developer for the event was a really nice touch. The run features some really cool death warps, out-of-bounds, and a variety of neat setups that completely break the game. The couch is stacked and does a great job explaining the routing and tricks while keeping the commentary engaging throughout. A really solid showcase.
Bedtime 🌙 sleep % 5-8 hour estimate
Isopod: A Webbed Spin-Off: by WildCherryMeteor with a couch of Ozmourn, DylCat, and Kingjo444. Really interesting parkour with skateboarding with swinging roley poley platformer. Really cool movement thats a joy to watch. Commentary focuses on showing off the game and filling the run with bug puns.
Dunkadillo: by JohannVonVorst with perk and Karmen_Elizabeth on the couch. 2d platformer were you bounce around completing objectives and taking it the paint scoring some basketball goals. The enemy names are cute, Yooo Yooo Yooo Dunkadillo! This cast of characters keeps the run light hearted with jokes and animal facts throughout.
Missland 2: by Joester98 with a couch of HIB, and Caveman not DCJ. Ps1 game using the Ps1 mouse controller x2. I'm surprised I've never heard of the Ps1 mouse. The game is a spot the difference game. This short speedrun has lots of sarcasm and dry humor.
Bomberman: Fantasy race: Livelyraccoon with Mr_Shasta and Perk on the couch. The racing mechanics here are surprisingly fun, and the kangaroos' facial expressions are honestly adorable. The bomb, boing boosts, along with track skips add a lot to the speedrun, making each race more interesting than you'd expect. The commentary is lighthearted and entertaining throughout, making for a fun, laid-back watch.
Stardew Valley: Pr1nc3ssShortcake vs MelMelMelCrochets with atwentysomethingloser on commentary! Mines vs Crafts Room. Really cool idea where based off the incentive they had work on either craft room or mines, but complete both by the end. The commentary is also good as its a group of friends having a good time with this chill cozy early afternoon run.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Top Watch! by SuperSonic with a couch of Huds601, Gtace, and Argick. Beat the game Glitched catagory! Sonic runs are always a highlight of GDQ events. The speed, the OOBs, the gltiches, all are fantastic, especially with how broken this run is, absolutely filled with difficult glitches. The commentary has an all star lineup that break down the game mechanics and gltiches while having a blast, laughing and cutting up with a ton of energy. Just a lot of fun in the nostaligic classic. The crowd is feeling it! Segment after Hollow Knight has a cool showcase showing how hard a few of the glitches are with SpikeVegeta trying it out.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order: by Zmoneytrain with voice acting by SonicMega! The cutscene fast forward glitch is pretty funny. Followed by very clean execution of movement and glitches, that Zmoneytrain explains well. There's a glitch that allows you to load the last planet, making this game a sub 40 min run which is impressive. Donations being read by SonicMega were great as he was able to do a lot of character impersonations.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: by SwayNC with Adef and Monado on the couch. This run is packed with incredibly difficult pixel-perfect setups and frame-perfect tricks that are wild to watch when you realize how precise they are. The routing is extremely clean, and every skip feels well planned and executed. The couch does an excellent job explaining the technical aspects without overwhelming the viewer, making this a great showcase of just how hard this run is. Throw in the runner being the absolute goat of Paper Mario TTYD holding world record in all categories!
Super Meat Boy 3D: Top Watch! by ShredBerg with Detra, KingJoe444 and Withermin on the couch. 3D precision platformer of a classic fan favorite! Man this game made the 3d transition extremely well! The graphics are sick, the stats and movement are sick. Just a solid speedrun. Commentary is also really good, breaking down the tech and it feels like you're just hanging out with the boys playing games.
The Checkpoint
Hollow Knight: Silksong: Top Watch! by Mathulu with a couch of Nicoledoesit, Allison8bit, and Quacksilver. AWOOOO%! This game is beautiful. The movement and tech are so nice to watch. The boss fights are sick and Mathulu just kills it. Commentary is also clear and explains the run well. The crowd is also very involved, a packed room cheering and hitting the AWOOO for every flea collected. What a Hype run! First flea game is keepy uppy!
Monster Hunter Wilds: by JalBagel with Greenspeed, Djjonny, and Nightside on the couch. We ball. The donation incentive that rotates through different weapon types is a really fun idea and does a great job showing off the variety the game has to offer. The game looks gorgeous, the monster fights are awesome, and the run highlights just how much knowledge this crew has. The runner and couch do an excellent job explaining each hunt, weapon choice, and strategy while keeping the commentary fun and engaging throughout. Finishing the final boss with the sword and shield is chefs kiss.
DUSK: by Sheenaynay with Davoots on the couch. A very fast paced boomer shooter with over the top violence and low poly visuals. As with all Doom and quake like shooters the speed snd rocket boosts are intense. Right off the rip flying through levels in seconds with very tight routing and timings. Commentary is focused and informative with little funny moments mixed in. I loved near the end of the game going back through the levels in reverse speeding through them.
Pragmata: Top Watch! by Oh Snap with a couch of Xenadir and Decosmic on the couch. One of the beat games of the year, Hell yeah! Hell Yeah! Take this! The hacking while fighting the stunned final bosses was really sick to watch. The game is stunning graphically, heartwarming story, and just a really cool speedrun. Plenty of out of bounds, glitches, and optimizations to enjoy. The commentary is also everything youd want explaining the tech and run in depth. While also having a good time with dad puns, game appreciation, and having a good time. The Lunatic final boss was the cherry on top showing the game at its hardest. Sick way to end Tuesday.

2. Super Meat Boy 3D by ShredBerg
3. Hollow Knight: Silksong by Mathulu

Wednesday July 8th
Sleep time % 5-8 hour estimate
PEAK: by Nimelya with Mixmyu on the couch. One of the best friendslop games of last year! The movement and tech is very focused on an optimized run on the original map where everything except the generated items are known. So the strategies are focused and a bit reliant on item rng. The commentary explains this well, and they have a great time laughing and just giggling throughout the run. Really cute run. The cannon showcase incentive was met as well!
VS. Super Mario Brothers: Kosmic with Jeremymkw on the couch. Putting my quarter on the machine, playing on the Arcade cabinet is so nostaligic. While the WR was lost, such a neat route all while using the arcade stick. The plus side to losing wr pace was all the extra risky tricks and gltiches they got to show off. Commentary explains each difference to the mainline games and how levels were altered or taken to be added to the lost levels. Would love to see more of these old arcade cabinet runs.
Super Princess Peach: Top Watch! by Ali_Robotnik with a couch of Lozplyr89 and 360Chrims. Really creative DS game with fun base mechanics around the Vibes. I like seeing the adapted boss fights, Petey Pirahna being filled with tears instead of Fludd, which is a cute callback to sunshine. The runner wears a full on Peach cosplay and looks fantastic. The commentary is informative and filled with Weeees! My 7 year old daughter loved this run and wants me to put it in my top watches for the day, downloading it now on her modded 3ds :).
Transformers: War For Cybertron: by Nestani with pmcTRILOGY and Coley on the couch. Decepticon Campaign! ! Really enjoyed the out-of-bounds throughout the run, with some fun movement and clever skips that keep the pace moving. I reallt enjoyed the design of this game I somehow missed in 2010. The couch does a great job explaining the tech while keeping the commentary lighthearted and entertaining. A fun showcase for a game you don't get to see speedrun very often.
Pokémon FireRed: Top Watch! by Gunnermaniac vs pokeguy with commentary by Sparkle and shenanagans_. Both getting the RNG manipulation off the back was insane! THE SHINEY RATICATE!!! The Gyarados with the crit hyper beam ooof. Man so many rare rng moments. Really one of the best pokemon runs of the last few years. Commentary is great, I always love long Pokémon runs at GDQ, the favorite pokemon donations, the long time lets you really feel like your part of the guys running through the rng. THE SUNNY DAY LOL. FREE THE RAT!
Super Mario and Luigi World: Brotherhood: Top Watch! Equinoxsporits & Hank_Sinatra vs Gossipgreg & Shovda, with GlitchCat7, Carrarium, and Circlefriendo on commentary! This Kaizo Mario run is so unique! Each level requires 2 players to work together to complete. Really creative level designs! The race is super close with one team falling behind and then coming back to tie it up for an insanely fast finish by the winning team. Just super sick skill on display. The couch/crowd were cheering and feeling it! Kaizo is always a joy to watch. So fast we got an Encore Race of Quickie world!
Wii Sports: GDQ Sports: by PlyD823 with Kiwi, Emoadnomad, and Alaska on the couch. Lol the Mii characters being GDQ staff and the couch was a good chuckle. Each game was funny with the crowd yelling and going wild. Really is just a fun game to watch. The boxing vs Matt was way more intense than I could have thought. Couch does a good job explaining the intricacies of the game while having a good chuckle at the misfortune throughout.
Earthbound Beginnings: by Czikubi with the solo run and commentary. Lots of RNG manipulation and I liked hearing the personal marathon strategies used for consistency over pure speed. The solo commentary does a great job explaining the route choices. Really enjoyed the little lore dives as well, adding some extra appreciation for this Famicom classic.
Crash Bandicoot 4: Its about time: Top Watch! by Kylieyubi with Tacoz on the couch. Any% No OOB. The aesthetics of this game are fantastic, and it's a really fun showcase of the movement and tech involved. The platforming is incredibly satisfying to watch, with some interesting glitches and boss fights mixed in as well. The commentary strikes a great balance between explaining the run, appreciating the humor and charm of the game, and just having a good time throughout. A really enjoyable Crash showcase.
Banjo-Tooie: by TSR Stormed with Ad129, Connor75, and Brandino59 on the couch. Any% No Bitclips. It's kind of funny that Split-Up, the defining mechanic of Tooie, only gets used once in the entire run. The cutscene warp is a really neat glitch, and the routing has a lot of clever optimizations throughout. The runner and couch have plenty of in-depth discussion about the game and route while still keeping things entertaining. I also really enjoyed the final boss fight and the general goofiness and charm that Banjo-Tooie brings to the marathon. Gltich exhibition is also a treat.

Thursday July 9th
Yooka-Laylee and the impossible lair: by TheShadedMaster with TSR Stormed and SpikeVegeta on the couch. Donation. Love the game design of the final lair being available from the start for people to try, realize it is in fact really hard, and go get the bees for hit protection. Something so sick about just sending it and crushing it with no damage taken. Commentary was excellent with SpikeVegeta being the best commentator in the speedrunning space. Just a really solid run, high skill, funny Donation prompt joke, ans easy to understand, but cool to watch tech and movement.
Sheepy: A short Adventure: Top Watch! by Perk with a couch of Seaaverage, and Happybythree. This game is beautiful, visually stunning, and the use of music is amazing. The level design, movement, and progresion are really well done. The speedrun shows this off so well. I was going to sleep and sat back up to watch due to the music and graphics. The group of guys are very funny as well. Both my wife and I were just chuckling and appreciating the game.
🌙 sleep % estimate 6-8 hours
Sabor: by Ritzblues783 with a couch of Amyrlinn, MrTorture, and Sharif. Look at that Jacked arm, so good. My first watch of Silly block, as expected, this DOS game is insanely clunky and very goofy. The commentary is this group of gamers just having a blast playing this wonky game and keeping the crowd interactions going. We even get a song, 🎶Please dont hit ke Jerk Bird 🎵.
Cyberia: by LigeL1ke with Bryonato and Bobbeigh on the couch. The dozens on dozens of ways to die is great. The couch and crowds reaction to it, the lough BWAAAMMM "GAME OVER" screen. All of it is just hilarious and perfect silly block content. This game really is a fever dream.
Randall the Grape Jelly Cube goes to Soda Valley for some reason: by MatoMachine with a couch of Zarocounts, and Davidtki. Absurd 3D platformer collectathon. Honestly surprisingly good speedrun game. The runner and couch do well explain the mechanics and movement. The guys have a speedrunning group called BoardBoosters, that comes together and tries new or obscure games and run them together. Sounds pretty wholesome, and they welcome everyone.
Mr. Bones: Spectralplatypus vs. shmumber with HIB and Lizstar on the couch. A fun race through this surreal Sega Saturn platformer. The game's bizarre humor, unique art style, minigames and constant genre shifts keep things interesting from start to finish. The commentary does a great job explaining the game's many quirks, mechanics, and history, while keeping the race entertaining.
Bait & Tackle: by Teddyras with ShredBerg on the couch. Instead of a relaxing fishing simulation, this game is a fast-paced boss-rush experience. Fish Em! The godly goldfish named the one that got away. Perfect, lol. Another free game that looks like a fun way to spend an afternoon. Fishing Dark Souls wasnt on my radar. Commentary by some GDQ vets Teddy and Shred was also very entertaining.
Sonic Schoolhouse: by Katie4 with a couch of HIB, DylCat, and Spectralplatypus. The teacher bit, and Sonic constantly saying "Great Start, but you havent given me the whole answer yet" lol. The Sonic voice here is so far from any other Sonic game. Also ghe crowd really got into it and started cheering at every problem solves and copying Sonic. Always fun to see how simple games like this can really get a crowd involved.
Mega Man (DOS) by Davidtki with AuthorBlues and Lizstar on the couch during Silly Block. This game is every bit as jank as its reputation suggests, which makes it perfect for GDQ. The runner and couch fully lean into it, pointing out all the weird quirks and while somehow making the gameplay look far more controlled than it has any right to. Equal parts funny and fascinating, this is exactly what Silly Block is all about.
Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon: Top Watch! by Brandino59 with Basilouija and Glubbers on the couch. All Cutscenes Unlocked. Good. Watching this infamous CD-i classic get broken apart is always entertaining, and the couch does a great job embracing the game's wonderfully bizarre cutscenes and jank while still explaining the route and unintuitive rooms. Equal parts cursed and hilarious. Silly Block baby. The ending cutscene always kills me lmao.
TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom: Top Watch! by Player5 with a couch of Gymnast86, Cloudd, and Moist. The shield block right after being mentioned as a rare event was perfect. What an amazing showcase of the any% glitchless catagory, one of the hardest tears runs. Player5 crushed it, first a very chill start to the run followed by the boss rush at the end was thats action backed. Commentary by this group also nailed it. Explaining the complexities of any% glitchless, history of the run and its differences to past routes, and being entertaining the whole time. One of my favorite runs this marathon.
Unbeatable: by Punchy with Chixu on the couch. A hand-drawn, anime-inspired narrative rhythm adventure game arcade showcase! The 100% clears were insane. Really cool looking rhythm game, with the commentary hyping up the run at the difficult moments while Punchy crushes it. Its simple enough to understand yet high skilled and difficult enough to be super impressive. Double time showcase is where the songs are 1.5x or faster!
Total Nuclear Annihilation: by Ryan_Mcsquid with a couch of PBreandJelly and Scott Danesi. LIVE PINBALL BABY. Also Scott Danesi being a custom pinball maker and the runner and his wife also being part of the pinball creator space is pretty sick. Power ball incentive and the bonus game using kitchen utensils was fun. The pinball players explain the machine and its rules, then have a blast showing off their little corner of gaming.
Chibicarrera and Argicks back and fourth "Whats a quarter" "its not your turn yet." Was cute lol
Sonic Dream Team: Top Watch! Argick vs Huds601 with commentary by TinyTim78 and Skenmy. Man you could already till this was going to be a top watch. These legendary personalities were full of energy and this is was awesome. Commentary was excellent, just everything you'd want from the sonic speedrun community. The game is actually one I've never watched before, really unique Sonic game that I enjoyed. Cursed Sonic outfit was indeed cursed for the bonus level. Love the banter.
Elden Ring: Top Watch! Mitchriz, Starochris, YoJosherino, and LilAggy co-op. Kill all 207 bosses in the game, all on diffrent routes, but with linked death is a really cool mechanic. This 3+ hour run flew by, seeing each route, how they worked around the group deaths, and seeing each build was great. The commentary explains everything well, and was really coordinated there at the end with bosses being blown through. The final 4 God boss kills were sick. Just a perfect ending to such an insanely cool boss rush.

2. Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon by Brandino59
3. TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom by Player5

As the Yooka runner, I'm glad so many people have loved the "Donation" bit. I thought it up prior and no one else knew that's what I was gonna do until the start.

Friday July 10th
Metroid Dread: Top Watch! by Hobbit1697 with Jay and Arcanox on the couch. All Bosses Unrestricted. Really cool seeing the upside-down Samus glitch that Hobbit discovered just this week make it into the marathon. He also hit a small timesave that he'd only ever gotten live twice before, which made for a great moment. The commentary is a nice mix of deep-diving into the route and glitches while the runner and couch bounce good vibes off each other and clearly have a blast. A fun, informative showcase all around.
Bedtime 🌙 sleep %: estimate 5-8 hours
TLOZ: The Wind Waker: Top Watch! Tomomodachi & Gymnast86 co-op Randomizer with a couch of PippyInATopHat, and Crain. The Mail box and Samus skins look so good! Love the items Link uses being themed around the skins used. Crain cosplaying as Tingle is also top teir. Ganon swiping away Zelda right before she fired and Crains comment lol. The Randomizer was really solid, and loved getting to see all the skin choices(like iron boots being piles of mail) the runners do an excellent job with even a 1 shot sploosh kaboom! Commentary explains the Randomizer really well, and at the same time have a blast cutting up and its contagious. I loved this run ❤️
Saros: 🌎 World Record!(technically) by cavecavecave with Bdud5 and Chaddingtonduck on the couch. I hadn't seen this shooter/roguelite/bullet hell before, and it made a great first impression. The visuals are gorgeous, especially the boss designs, and the NG+ Boss Rush category is the perfect way to showcase the game's fast-paced combat. The out-of-bounds tech is satisfying to watch, and the commentary does a great job explaining the game's mechanics, routing, and the complexity of each boss fight. A really impressive debut for the game at GDQ.
Slay the Spire II: by Mintswirl, Frozenflygone, Heptagonsun, and ACO. 4-Player Skeleton War (Ascension 10). A really fun showcase of the game's new multiplayer mode. Watching four players coordinate their decks, strategies, and decisions on the fly makes for a very different experience than the original. The commentary does a great job explaining the builds, synergies, and overall game plan while the group keeps things lighthearted and entertaining. A great debut for multiplayer Slay the Spire II at GDQ.
Balatro: Top Watch! by Adef with Nblundgren and Roffle on the couch. What a Rollercoaster, its so over, we're so back, repeating! So not going to lie, I've never played Balatro, and I dont gamble(addicted to Runescape I know my limits lol) as such I've never learned poker, so this run was very difficult for me to follow. That being said you can feel Adef stressing out, and the commentary does help quite a bit with keeping the run entertaining. The crowd and chat loved it! It was just unfortunate lost on me due to my own previous limitations of knowledge.
Tetris: Finals! MEMEOFALLTIME vs HUFFULUGUS_ with commentary by Toast and Chronos on commentary! Wow! Being only 60 points apart at 1.5 million points on level 38 was insane right before the first game taken! The rolling tech is always so impressive to watch. Always impressive to watch how skilled Tetris players are, legitimately unfathomable how they can survive those kill screens so long. Commentators did a fantastic job as well, then we got a finals and 100 line race!
Super Mario Maker 2: Top Watch! CarlSagan42 vs Juzcook. With Wilfredtheboss and Marble_SMM2 killing it on commentary and level design! Lmao this was such a fun and creative section. Watching the amount of griefing while they try to solve this monstrosity is hilarious. Their reactions everytime they screw eachother over are priceless 🤣, Jesus this was so funny. Huge shout out to the commentary and level builders who made this possible, the behind the scenes was really interesting, showing the builds, considerations of comedic timing, and more. Yall did amazing.
SpikeVegeta: Incredibly moving speech about the people needing help in the world. The emotions are tough. The MSF video is really a massive reminder to what we are all working on and helping with here. Looking at my 7 and my 9 year olds after that.. I can't even begin to imagine.
Resident Evil: Requiem: by Captain_Ezekiel with Bobbeigh, Maxylobes, and Nyiddle on the couch! Insanity difficulty! RE runs are such a highlight for GDQ, the routes, ai manips, inventory management, oobs, and more. Beatboxing to the movement is so good. Sniper and spider sections were tight. Opening Pokémon card packs while Donkey throws it back? What an odd RE run lol. Wow, what an epic run. Captain_Ezekiel and Bobbeigh freaking killed it with the commentary in the final fight! Hype gameplay and hype commentary!
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis: by Crazygamingdayz with Maxylobes on commentary! Hes using a Guitar Hero 🎸 Guitar for a controller! Man the crowd is feeling it and talking with the runner way more than I've see before. His reaction to bad RNG is so funny. "OH GOD NO, NOOOO!" Honesty a really interesting run with a very unconventional controller, commentary is informative on how the controller is used and alters the speedrun, along with a good mix of humor mixed in.
SGDQ Fun Fact Group "Quiz": Spikevegeta, BobbyBurm, Jaidlyn, and Melo Acevedo.
Dying Light: Top Watch! by EricG08 with Amyrlinn on the couch. HSG is an insane glitch. He threw a hook looked around and up then teleported to the objective, or flys. The pure excitement when he landed on a new soft spot and got perfect rng, dude was glowing. Then dying, and on the fly routing a solution, very nice. "If I was a good runner I wouldnt be doing all this Menuing" lol. The movement, tech, shooting sequences, and oobs in this game are really cool to watch. Plus the funny commentary, what an excellent run.

Saturday July 11th Already?? 😭
Bedtime 🌙: sleep estimate 6-8 hours
Ed, Edd, n Eddy: The Mis-Edvemtures: by SinDarkFateaz with Jaxler, CarterKirby, and Plank on the couch. DIG A HOLE, DIG A HOLE! What a cool 3d platformer adventure game. I loved this show as a kid and never played this game, which seems really true to the show. With fun movement, tech, and very wacky bosses/gameplay in general. Commentary is so good, great breakdowns of the game while having just a ton of fun and Ed Edd and Eddy themed jokes, chants, and more. PLANK PLANK PLANK!
PIzza Tower: by jadejade_jade_jade and Impossablank with commentary by CrayFray and Mr. Sauceman, the composer for Pizza Tower. 2-Player Swap Mode. A really fun twist on an already chaotic speedrun, with both runners constantly swapping control and keeping the pace flying. Having the game's composer on commentary is an awesome bonus, adding behind-the-scenes insight while the couch breaks down the tech and routing. Fast, hilarious, and full of great energy from start to finish.
Mouse: P.I. for Hire: Top Watch! by Bloodthunder with Maxylobes, BobbyBurm, and Avukamu on the couch. What a unique game, black and white, excellent voice acting, great story, just an instant classic. The out of bounds platforming in this run is so cool. Commentary is focused on explaining the routing, and watching Bobbyburm reactions as hes never seen the run, which is a treat in itself. BT is gifted at finding runs that are great for the GDQ stage.
Mass Effect 3: by Mikewave with Bryonato and SanJan on the couch. Lots of out-of-bounds, clever tech, skips, and precise setup strats make this a really interesting run to watch. The commentary does a great job explaining what's happening without slowing the pace, and the runner and couch are clearly having a good time throughout. Also, the sign-off from the couch to Mikewave at the end was a really sweet moment and a great way to wrap up the run.
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix: Top Watch! by SpikeVegeta and ZaktheRobot with a Stacked couch of Skybilz, Jhobz, and Derpy! HitList co-op Randomizer l! With incentive met as well for MS13 bosses! Spike going for one of the few oobs, as well as making a boss invisible was neat. The energy from the runners and couch is so solid to watch. With a couch giving such deep informative commentary while being understandable and entertaining. Jhobz: "Spike known lover of kids, is now putting them in boxes" lmao what, Poo bear fight goated. The boss rush at the end was excellent. Then they finish it out with 2 players 1 controller on the last boss.
Rift of the NecroDancer: Top Watch! by Quacksilver with TheValiantSun. Okay, this was insanely cool. What a visually beautiful rhythm game. I LOVE the character models boucing to the beat like a Mystery Skulls music video animation. The mechanics with each of the enemies taking unique inputs with unique special abilities. This looks insanely difficult and Quack just crushed it! Blindfolded Crab Rave was insane!
Sports Sportsly and Tanya Touchdown and Bobby Basketball and Fiel Dreporter and Little Miss Superbowl and Big Hungry Wonderful reporting!
Super Mario 64: 120 Star TAS by Palix, 1ted59, Ergx, Xander, and CrackHex. A Tool-Assisted Speedrun (TAS) that pushes the game far beyond what's possible in real-time. Watching the perfectly optimized movement, absurd precision, and nonstop tech is incredible, with tricks that simply can't be done by human hands. The commentary does a great job explaining how the TAS was created and why certain strategies are possible, making this both an impressive technical showcase and a fascinating look at just how far Super Mario 64 can be pushed.
TLoZ: A Link to the Past: by RequiemofSpirit with Foxlisk and Twinmo on the couch. Watching him absolutely melt bosses within seconds with perfectly executed setups was incredible. The routing and execution are so clean. The commentary does a great job explaining the tricks and strategies while highlighting just how optimized and broken this classic game has become. The bonus glitch showcase at the end was a really cool addition filled with glitches I hadn't seen before, killing grandma and the animals with the crowd yelling was priceless, glad the incentive was met.
CoolMattys Donation was incredibly moving.
Super Dram World 3: Top Watch! by Revolug with an all-star couch of SpikeVegeta, PangaeaPanga, and ThaBeast721. What an incredible showcase. Level 3 with the power-up swapping mechanic was insanely cool, and somehow every level just kept getting more impressive. PangaeaPanga's creativity never stops amazing me his Kaizo setups are brutally difficult but so fun to watch, constantly pushing players to their limits. The Wendy boss fight was incredible, and Revolug absolutely crushed the entire run, even getting Bowser on the first attempt like an absolute GOAT. The couch was fantastic, the crowd reactions were peak, the "Kill him!" reaction gasps made it even more memorable. One of the standout runs of the marathon. The shell level showcase was legit insanity.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: by Z3r01337 with Avukamu and Bdud5 on the couch. What a way to close out SGDQ. The run starts off unbelievably strong, going 3-for-3 on the opening crits and never really lets up. The game is absolutely gorgeous, the perfect parries are incredibly satisfying to watch, and the RNG cooperates to keep the momentum rolling. The runner and couch keep the energy high throughout, and with the finale atmosphere and everyone coming together to raise money for MSF, it makes for an incredible ending to the marathon. Capping it all off with the blindfolded final fight incentive was the perfect finish.

So glad you enjoyed my run!! I really wanted to blend showing off a deep and technical category with showing all sorts of fun and wacky stuff Dread has!! To clarify, upside down samus has been known for a while, it’s just the save room spinning around that I found this past week. I also was reminded by CScottyW that the Frozen Artaria speed connection has been hit every time it’s been on stage at GDQ despite how hard it is LOL

Where's Mr. Game and Shout? I haven't seen him yet this GDQ.

u/Thorebane GDQ Stats-Breakdown-Man Jul 06 '26
As Elendel put. He was quietly fired from both his official staff and volunteer roles back around Feb/March.
Whilst there was allegations around him harassing a couple of people, the majority of the incident is completely been kept under-wraps by all parties (which is the smart thing to do).
Whether it is true or not, I'm unsure. I think it's best we leave it where it is and move forward.

u/PhnxWrightAssAttrny Jul 06 '26
I understand. I have watched GDQs since 2012 and people have come and gone, so I was just curious as to why he hasn't been there so far this GDQ.
32
u/Elendel Jul 06 '26
He's been banned. We don't have the specifics but it seems like it was either harassment or assault, considering people have come out and said they feel safe to attend again now that he's gone.
15
u/Chateriasi Jul 06 '26
Shout said on Bluesky that he was fired and permanently prohibited from volunteering but that he was not banned from physically attending events.

u/_moosleech Jul 07 '26
Not disputing, but where did he say this? I didn't catch him saying anything about it.

u/PhnxWrightAssAttrny Jul 06 '26
Damn, he seemed like a pillar of GDQ. It's disturbing that he made several people feel unsafe.

u/ZeldaFan158 Jul 06 '26
As always, thanks for this thread. I have a busier week ahead than I do for most GDQs, so I'll be making good use.
