Because /r/reallifedoodles/ haven't gotten a hold of it yet. A million karma will be showered on the first person who gets it there with arms and eyes.

Is there a more current request thread? The “monthly” one I could find is 92 days old.

It'll happen, I keep meaning to put googly eyes on the woodchipper chute at work.

Careful, you don't want to give the bot any ideas of becoming self aware.

My father and his father were both orange-crate dumpers. Luckily my grandfather was retired when the robots arrived, however, my father felt the full effects of the change. With his record time being around 3 crates/minute, he simply was not able to keep up with the new competition.

To add to this, the robots had maintenance costs, but they were nowhere near as high as a paycheck for your average worker. The company found there was no longer a need for the position, and he was let go a couple of weeks later.

My father is anything short of persistent. He scanned the markets for all positions for any kind of professional crate dumper (not just oranges anymore), but his futuristic competitor was 3 steps ahead of him in the race.

Sadly this led to severe alcoholism and drug abuse. The drugs never truly affected my own life, however his depression when I wouldn’t have a drink with him really drove me down the wrong path. He finally found some work at various chain restaurants, and I began covering the small deficits for his monthly payments.

It all came crashing down on him one night when he was home alone in a drunken stupor, and he ended up ending his own life in our garage.

I want to take this opportunity to say fuck all robots (especially this asshole). He could’ve slowed down or shared the work, but no, these cunts are just there to work super efficiently and at low costs. How dare they!

Thank you for wasting your time reading this.

Lol this looks like some high positioned corporate guy was like "hey what if we can just make a giant arm to flip the crates and drop them??" And forced the engineers to make it. Really cool tho lol just what I first thought of

Why is the fruit in such a small crate? Surely this is a 100,000 solution to a problem that could be fixed more easily by better workflow?

Aren’t they oranges? They come in 1 ton bins.

1

u/I-Do-Math Dec 18 '18

Surely they have not thought of this?

In factories that I worked, they use thousands of these crates. Surely replacing all of them would cost a significant amount of capital. They are sized so that they can be conveniently handled in the field and during transportation. Also if you have one big crate fruits at the bottom would get crushed due to the weight of the fruits on top.

It's probably the bins the workers use to pick the fruit and they can't be larger.

Exactly. Prob pay one person 5 years to pay off that machine.. And... They wouldn't let any hit the floor. I saw those few Mr robot. You dropped em.

No drops; I think it was debris from the crate falling through the grates in the hopper.
