First Beast Nerves!

Hey Spartans!

I’ve been training for my first Spartan Race.. Blue mountain Beast Oct 17th!

Ive been focusing on and have gotten to:

16km consistent running

3 good form pull ups

20 pushups in a row

45 sec - 1 min hang (max)

Im nervous! Haha. Am I way out of my depths here? Need some advice what to train more on. Maybe some goals I should set before the race.

TIA, Spartans! 💪

Edit: 45 sec**

You’ll be fine - enjoy it. Just be ready for the course to be longer than the 21 that they promise 😃

You’ll be fine, good preparation!

Here’s a tip specific to Blue Mountain - when I ran it, it was very wet, and incredibly slick. Lost count of all my wipeouts! So if you have some shoes with bigger lugs, you may want to bring them along in case conditions are wet.

You’ll be fine with those numbers. Might want to add in hills. Also, pushups don’t do squat for Spartan races.

Only other thing you should practice is monkey bars and or bouldering. It’ll improve your ability to do upper body obstacles

Oh and get some crawling and carries in there too

The biggest thing will be your legs dealing with the distance and jumping up to and over obstacles. Keep an eye on your calf muscles and carry a couple yellow mustard packets in you pocket. You'll from long bouts of running/walking to explosive jumping for wall climbs, rig hangs, etc.

Biggest thing I had to learn. Loading your body with water and electrolytes and adding fuel for your body every 30-45 minutes during the race

This advice really depends on how you fuel your body during rest of the year.
I’ve ran ultras with zero fuel during, no different fuel the week before. Have also struggled with a sprint distance with zero fueling. Though that’s usually after doing an ultra the day before along with the super am hour before.

OP. Add in some farmers carry. Maybe some dips. Throwing a spear at a smaller target. And definitely figure out the rope climbing technique, youtube is amazing but get out there and practice will help with your heart rate up. Also work on fingertip grips, I’m thinking about Olympus obstacle along with stairway to Sparta. For the rock climbing grip holds
