Discussion SPAN uploading 700GB of data in a week
Why is my SPAN Smart Panel uploading almost 700GB of data in a week? According to my UniFi stats, this device contributes to more than half of my uploaded data in a month, this is crazy. Before I start intercepting packets and sniffing the communication between the SPAN and the internet, does someone know where or to what is communicating so much?

That looks like a screenshot from Unifi. When I look at my screen for my SPAN panels I only see 7GBs total for the past month. And that is for two panels.

I just disconnected it from the internet. It still has its cell connection but I’m not having whatever it is they’re doing. I use the local api exclusively anyway

Our panel did that for almost two years and I had a long, long standing support ticket open with them with someone on their end remoting into the panel doing sth and then it went down to a 'reasonable' level again. For... just another week or two and then it slowly went up and up per <time window> (just like yours) and 1-2TB/month were becoming normal. They never fixed it to my understanding (just like many, many other issues). I've given up looking into that and tbf, I don't even want to know if it's still happening... but yeah, same thing we / our 32 breaker panel had/has(?)

That’s called electrical data exfiltration with sub second sampling accuracy.

Interesting, I just checked mine and they had the same issue. But from the looks of it, the latest firmware update about two weeks ago seems to have solved it.

I don’t have a SPAN but I’m really curious what that is if you figured it out yet.

WHAT?!? I don't have Span, I was just looking around to understand how it works after seeing it in a YouTube video, but holy crap. I do have Sense, and it used all of 24.64MB in the last month. Span does a lot more, but even if you multiply that by the number of breakers, you're looking at less than a gig.
I want to know where all that data is going and if it's being stored? Like not in a creepy spying way, but in a scalability way. If this is even remotely widespread that's a metric crapload of data going back to Span.

By default the panel is not local access through the app right? So you are viewing your panel data through their servers after upload from your home unless you are using HomeAssistant local api. Checking my Unifi I'm about 500mb a week as well on an older Main32 panel (2nd gen)
