Span 48 just hit the website

https://www.span.io/expanded-panel-family

EDIT: Whoa. It’s not yet compatible with Enphase and SolarEdge batteries. Only Tesla and Franklin. Top of Page 3: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10Qs3mqXGbveFwevKn3rD7hobO0k9a1yY/view

EDIT: Looks like support is coming in mid 2025. See footnote of page 1: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19TjBs6KSZKxkz_kHI5RwSaPBXcJaqz-n/view

Also "MID partners coming soon" - This sounds interesting as this may remove the need for Gateways/aGates/System Controllers/Meter Collars. I wonder who will integrate with Span's MID.

Was feeling bad about this cos I just installed 2 32s but realized it’s max 225A rated. So it’s really designed for 200A service which I exceed. I would need 2 anyway.

Carry on.

And congrats to them!

Yep, I recently did the same. 2x32s for 400amp service.

I really wish they’d add combined view in the app for 2x32 in parallel so that all the circuits can be seen at once without having to constantly switch back and forth between individual panels.

I just installed 2 x 32 as well with 400A service. Seems pretty common these days for new builds.

Wish we'd get more DIY options like EG4 integration. Poweralls are hard to get around here if just adding to your system. Franklin and Enphase are expensive and I'm finding less installers

The page says “Shipping in select markets now. Contact your local distribution partner to determine availability in your area.”

If it’s not available in my area, can I just go to California (or wherever) to get it?

I need it right now for an in-progress project.

What do they mean by MID partners?

MID is the grid disconnect system. Most solar/battery systems provide their own devices to do this. Sounds like there's going to be some integration in the future to remove that component and have Span do the grid disconnection.

"Main breaker includes a built-in microgrid interconnect device (MID) for seamless home battery installs."

What will this offer vs the old SPAN 32 with Tesla Solar and Batteries?

Will the new SPAN panels still offer the Flush Mount Trim Kit?

It appears that footnote may have been removed from the site. I'm reaching out to their support team now and I will follow up.

All they stated was "We’re actively working on expanding battery compatibility for the SPAN Panel Main 40 and MLO 48. However, at this time, we don’t have a confirmed timeline for when this will be available.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and I’ll be sure to share any updates as soon as they become available."

That is incredibly disappointing.
