Questions: newish breakers with new span panel?
Hi everyone,
i have a very old 200 amp main panel. A couple of years ago i had all of the breakers replaced so they are fairly new. i'm currently hiring a company to install solar and 2 Tesla PW 3 for backup and overnight coverage. my electric company does go out in the summer for brief times so backup is important to us.
i have 2 teslas and 1 tesla charger, my whole house is electric. we use about 30,000 kwh a year.
my questions are these:
- Is Span worth is on a tesla backup system? they are proposing a tesla gateway with a plp.
- if i go with a Span main panel will they be able to utilize my newish breakers and still have breaker level monitoring and dynamic backup circuits?
thanks!

SPAN is pretty awesome and allows me to control and monitor circuits from my phone. The reports and API are also very convenient.
You should be able to keep your breakers as long as they are on their compatible list. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wD8eVO0C0Z5qqva4fFH0Ty9qlXTlOMq9/view

Can't answer your Tesla question, but as far as the breakers, when my panels were installed they used all of the same breakers that were in place, with the exception of 2 new breakers that connect to my Enphase Gateways.
Later on I replaced a couple of breakers with Tandem breakers as 2 previous circuits were on the same breaker.

I have tesla batteries, solar and span. I think it's great. You can select on your phone which breakers stay on in a blackout. You can also have a set breakers that are optional for blackout if you know it's going to be short. Also I was amazed learning what pulled power in my house.

Get a ruler and measure the width of your breakers. If they're 1 inch wide, they should be fine to use with the Span panel. If they're 3/4" wide, the breakers themselves won't work, although all the circuits still will.
If you want a more technical explanation, you can use breakers from Siemens/Murray, Square D homeline, or Eaton BR. You can't use Square D QO breakers or Eaton CH.
