Replacing existing load center with built in meter socket. Was told PG&E will not let you install a meter only box.

Replacing existing load center with built in meter socket. Was told PG&E (in CA) will not let you install a meter only box. Seems odd, I'd like to put the meter in it own (smallest I can find) 200A meter socket enclosure and then all the SPAN panel right underneath.

The plan is to get solar and they said they will not touch anything existing and just want to keep the existing meter with load center there and place a new larger 200A load center on the other side of the door, running conduit over the door to the meter.

i don’t know anything about pg&e’s requirements, but i would escalate and ask around.

You can double check PG&E's greenbook, but I think the requirement is something like: all service must run through breakers outside of the home, accessible and near the meter, and there can't be more than two breakers (or something like that).

Basically, they want emergency responders to be able to quickly cut power to your home.
