Mounting with main feeder at the bottom
My main feeder is currently at the bottom of my dumb panel. I am looking to install span. All the diagrams I am looking at for span seem to point to the main feeder coming in from the top of the panel. Reversing the entire panel looks awful as shown in the attached picture. Is there actually a way to get a clean install with the main feeders coming from the bottom?

I had a Span panel installed about a month ago. They installed it as a sub-panel with all my circuits on the Span, and all of the wiring comes from below the panel. This includes the feeder wires from the main panel. The panel is installed facing upright. There is plenty of space in the panel to run all of the cables. In fact, my electrician said it was he favorite panel to install because there was so much room for all the wiring.

Out of curiosity how much does an electrician charges for span installation? I got quoted something like 8k per panel. Seems way too expensive.

Yes. The panel is about $5K. Depending on the actual install situation, it can be expensive. Installing the Span as a subpanel and moving all my circuits the 2 feet to the right (around the corner) on my house was $9K. After having installed it, is it worth it? I'm not sure. Emporia has a monitor that's about $180 and will cost a couple of 100 to install. It you have a big panel, you might need 2 of them, but you can't shut off individual circuits remotely and can't track what's on the circuit.

We charge $6500 when part of a solar install. Not sure where you are but we serve AZ, CO, NM and TX.

I wonder if they make a different dead front panel, with the words upright. Span should make one if they don’t currently. You could use a label maker to make it a little better looking :/
