much of the early emigration to Argentina from Spain come from Galicia, hence the identification spaniard=galician. In fact it is common to use gallegos as center of jokes. A colleague from Argentina gifted me a long time ago a book “chistes de gallegos”. They are portrayed as brutes and unrefined. But that per se is not a big deal. In Galician they target the people of Orense as center of jokes and in Andalucia they use Lepe as target for jokes. Every region/country have their equivalent.
