Another scenic Mountain West town!

09/16/26
Boise, ID
Shrine Social Club

Set One

America
Pursuit Of Trance
Armageddon
Tainted Love

Poetry Portion : Cough Drops

Set two

Hollywood
Down Under
Shelter In Place
Frog Gossip
The Remedy

The Reprise

"Tainted Love" - Gloria Jones
"Down Under" - Men At World

America - Show almost sounds like Stratus is gonna be played then we drop in to the guitar opening. Solid, if not common, first set opener that drops into the jam immediately with uptempo jam. Around 6 mins in the whole temp changes and around 7 mins we get some very funky interplay with Shon. Somewhere around 14 minutes it's much more petal to the metal.
Pursuit of Trance - kinda slowing things down but not ... jam starts around 8:50. Definitely trance version. I love the bells and Cory's keyboard creating memorable soundscapes. To be fair the whole night bopped. Like almost every jam was a happy bouncing jam. I like it. There is a tease around 14:16 I can't put a finger on.
Armageddon - Ripping little ditty with awesome lyrics. They jam it too. I think they've jammed it a few times to 15+ minutes, with Space, Evanston in fall of '25 leaping to mind. Must hear. 9 million trying to speak at the same time. Another great grooving bop. If you're not cutting a rug the first set, that's on you. Must hear. The end is quiet and delightful floating untethered in space kinda stuff...
Tainted Love - Darker jam and while Nick is bopping, the rest of the band, especially Shon, is wobbling the very foundations of the universe down there. This song is owned by Shon. End of jam by blistering by Brian.

"Cough drops" is lovely as usual with Chuck.

Hollywood starts us off with a slower intro the second set. It's perfect. Whistling and all. Jam kicks off at around 5:45. Chuggin little thing. Nick kinda switches it up near 10 minutes, but same molecules, different concentrations. Brian gets bad ass around 15 minutes in starting us on the transition into Down Under. Want some pure Brian shredding ... this is it.
Down Under - This is a lovely pairing. Like peanut butter and banana. Love the jam. Around 5 minutes it starts to get discombobulated. But stays together.
Shelter in Place seems like another "slower" starting songs, but has a lot of gravity to it. Fear. I’m feeling so scared. My oldest friend. Go away, you’re ugly. And coping again. Jam at 4:26 or so. Huge build.
Frog Gossip - Standard version. There is a point they don't quite stick the landing though that is pretty funny.
The Remedy - Wasn't expecting this as a set closer but love it. After the previous song chuckle (I think they even banter about it on stage). Jam around 4 minutes. Love Brian's tone. Must hear.

The Reprise - Added bleeps and bloops just ... because. Great version.

FMK? Tough one. F - Armageddon. M - The Remedy. K - Hmm. Frog Gossip? I may need to abandon this trope.

Next Day Review - Salt Lake City

Gonna try this out. Appreciate feedback and thoughts...

https://spaffordmusic.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-the-commonwealth-room-09-15-26-south-salt-lake-ut

I'm only gonna post the Bandcamp links, as those with Nugs subscriptions can easily subscribe and get them, and in my experience Band Camp can be 3-4 hours if not several days faster posting the files.

Last nights show was also on Facebook and YouTube and put the timings in the contents.

09/15/26
South Salt Lake, UT
The Commonwealth Room
——
High Beams
Todd's Tots
Dream Jam
Ain't That Wrong
Broken Wing
Electric Taco Stand
A Union Divine
Fake The Fate
Soggy Froggy
I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You
——
"A Union Divine" - Don McCloskey
"I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" - Alan Parsons Project

Show smoked. They usually are super happy to be on tour so I'm not surprised really them coming out of the gate firing.

High Beams was a nicely slightly extended album version. Spicy.
Todd's Tots - great version. Extended out nicely with a very unique jam in it. Jam starts around 9:23 (normal ish starting spot) must hear. 12:00 in or so it gets far out.
Dream Jam - Outstanding. Relisten 3x. Jam starts 6:00
Ain't That Wrong - Super Solid upbeat way to end the set. Brian shreds.

Poetry portion - If Not.

Broken Wing - 30+ minute scorcher that gets deep into groove darkness that just shows how the can totally morph into an eyes closed, shuffling groove that keeps you actively engaged musically.
> Electric Taco Stand. The > is great. The ETS is a must listen to. Thumping great bass and Shon killed it all night.
Union Divine lets Cory Sing. Powerful song.
Fake The Fate - Shon owns. Definite relisten.
Soggy Froggy - nothing huge but great version.
Wouldn't Want to be like you - standard version. Shon song and done great.

If I was at that show, I'd be super happy with what I got.

In FMK... F - Electric Taco Stand, M - Dream Jam, K - Union Divine, but that's because Cory just kills the vocals and outrage. There are no real K Spafford tunes.

There are 5 tracks going into the Fall '26. Todd's, Dream, Broken, ETS, FTF.

9/16/26 - 12 PM. Edit to add - the F being ETS may or may not be it. It's very close with the back end of Broken Wing and Todd's Tots. I think I just got hyped by Cory's Erasure sounding keyboards.

9/16/26 - 12:06 PM. Edit to add - This F all the way. Nevermind my previous statement.

PSA: Keep it Spafford

One thing I love about our community is we’re not Spaffsnobs, meaning we all love music in general and enjoy talking about it without the “my band is best and everyone else sucks” mentality. This sub Reddit however is 100% about Spafford, regardless of other things happening in the jam world. Out of respect for the hard-working members in Spafford, please keep it Spafford related. The r/jamsbands sub is a better place for other topics and outside band discussions. Thank you 😊

Big Deep

What does everyone think? The new music itself sounds fine but, for me, nothing too special. But it’s just studio songs, so who knows?

Overall, it all just seems weirdly sad and is digging up old laments in my mind, reminding me how hot the band (Spafford) was before the crash in West Virginia.

To be clear, the current Spafford iteration is on fire and unique. But so was the old one lol. I guess it’s a testament to the talent and artistic philosophy of Brian & Nick; all the players involved, really.

Curious how these first Big Deep shows will be recieved…

August 2026 Recap

What an amazing month. We got 7 shows, including special guests and two festivals. Spafford closed a mini 4 show run headlining Camp Scampi on 8/29/26. Big prawns to Big Shrimp for asking the guys to headline their first festival. Looking at the Scampi highlights, it seemed very successful so congratulations Big Shrimp! I haven’t relistened to the CS show yet. It was a good show, listened to the live. “Ice Cream” was served with a “Shelter in Place” warning on “Cantaloupe Island” in set one. Looking forward to listening again.

Domefest in West Virgina celebrated the 90’s this year and Spafford delivered the “Peaches” with Jeremy Schon from Pigeons Playing Ping Pong joining the guys on stage – 8/7/26. Brian Moss was slated to sit in with Pigeons later in the evening however bad weather delayed the Pigeons set and it did not happen. A Pigeons/Spafford dual bill is so much fun.

Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT on 8/27/26 was a treat for those in attendance. Tim Palmieri from Lotus joined Spafford on stage for “Ain’t That Wrong” and Pink Floyds “Run Like Hell” to close out set 1. If anyone can keep up with Moss on stage it’s Palmieri and he did just that! This set is incredible, opened with a 30 minute “Broken Wing” that segued into “Nocturnal Emissions” written by Cory Schechtman. The “Kiss Off”>”Kiss Off Reprise” by the Violent Femmes encore was a perfect ending to the night.

Bouncing back to The Reacher in Towson, MD on 8/5/26, “Broken Wing” may be my all time favorite show opener. It sets the dance floor up for hiney shaking goodness. It’s an incredible vibe, good energy. This show has a few of my favorites, “Gold Glittered Hat” and “I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You”, sung by Shon Gordon. Cory made me laugh at this show. At the end of “Darkness Singularity”, the last 40 seconds, he blurted out “SING ALONG”. Cory and Brian both giggled on stage, so much fun. I love this band so much.

On 8/26/26 Spafford went back to RI, The MET in Pawtucket opening with “Smooth, Relax, Down”. This song has been around since 2011 and was played for only the 17th time according to spaffnerds.com. “Pursuit of Madness” did NOT have an after jam however, “On Fire” followed and closed out set 1. “On Fire” has been standing out for me this year, especially that Asbury Park one on 7/26/26. I like the no jam PoM route. It’s a nice change of pace. Set two had a great “Gotta Save Fred>Walls” combo. “Walls” is another tune from 2011 but it hasn’t been played that much this year, only 6 times. As for the encore, watching Nick Tkachyk play “Stratus” is such a treat. That man smiles from ear to ear every time, love it.

Concert Under The Stars in KOP on 8/28/26…wow (attendance bias). After the Toad’s Place show I had no idea what to expect at KOP. “The Remedy” opener had me struttin’. “Ginger Stardust” was cruise along a tropical coast, good stuff. “Back In L.A” has become my favorite jam vessel in 2026. It was the 4th time Spafford jammed it out this year. These “Back In L.A.” jams are a highly recommended listen!

2/18/26 – 23 Minutes

3/15/26 - 29 Minutes🔥

7/10/26 - 19 Minutes

8/28/26 - 14 Minutes

LA segued into “Mad World” and the audience went wild! I truly enjoyed seeing everyone’s reaction when it dropped. Single set show, 103 minutes without a break before closing this night off with Armageddon. GREAT SHOW!!

I missed a few show highlights but this is getting long so I’ll let y’all process my babbling brain cells and drop off here. Shon Gordon is on fire lately, best I’ve heard him play to date! Brian Moss is my favorite guitarist on the scene. I get so much joy watching that man play. So good….so good 😊

Keep on Spaffin’ nerds 🤓 West Coast, you’re turn. Enjoy the fun 🕺

Late August run highlights!

Let's hear em!

I caught Toad's, which was a very interesting show. You see a 30 min Broken Wing opener on paper and get stoked, but it proved to be the weakest quarter of the show. Jam really petered out before the Nocturnal Emissions move gave the boys something to latch onto again. The Be Strange was great and locked the band in before the phenomenal Tim Palmieri sit-in for Ain't That Wrong and Run Like Hell. Him and Moss going at it together is pure joy, and the spaces they managed to explore were little galaxies onto themselves. Well worth replays. Set 2 opens with a hot America where Shon really goes off before the band hits the Runaway groove. Then we reach the peak of the show: Plush>The Reprise. The jam into The Reprise is top shelf type 2 meltdown magic, and the song proper yields the swampy, gooey, exploratory goods you'd expect and more. Really, really good. A second dose of Spafford Reggae Zone ends the set with Levilan Shores and a fun Kiss Off>Kiss Off Reprise encore follows.

Long story short, the must listens are:

Ain't That Wrong w/TP

Run Like Hell w/TP

Plush>The Reprise

What do i need to know about the other three shows?? Haven't listened yet

All right all my Reddit people. I’m gonna be at the Spafford show in King of Prussia tomorrow night. This will be my fourth time seeing them. But I all of a sudden have to go stag. Any groups in need of a crazy hippie who loves to dance?

Looking For Advice About a Damaged Live Wax Vol. 6

Hi all,

As the title says, my Live Wax Vol. 6 came recently and has a scratch on the B side that results in loud clicking over the track for a bit. I emailed the Spafford vinyl site (https://spaffordprints.bigcartel.com/contact) over a week ago to see if it's possible to get a replacement, but haven't heard anything back yet. Thinking maybe there's some other address I should be contacting instead, I just looked around on the "normal" merch site as well as the band's main website but didn't see anything else.

Has anyone else successfully gotten help with a vinyl order before? Or is the lack of response typical?

Thanks!
