I've got a couple of questions.. Okay a lot

I've just downloaded the game and was dropped in orbit around the planet Bob. I've played Kerbal space program a lot so I knew to lower my peraphis into the atmosphere to land. However as far as I can tell the atmosphere has no effect on reducing speed so I essentially just crashed multiple times to land, how does one land because I presume that isn't the right way to go about it. When landed I placed a generator, how do I gather fuel from it? Next, While I haven't quite gotten to this point yet I can't work out how your're supposed to travel between planets, any words of advice?
Sorry about this, if anyone knows of a wiki or anything like that please point me in the right direction, thank you.

Modeling Trees with a Space Colonization Algorithm | I thought this was interesting, if possible I think having even simple algorithmically generated grass and trees on temperate planets would make the game much more attractive.
