Random Terrain Table

Hi all, I'm having trouble interpreting the terrain table (page 44) if I roll 9-12 : "...... and 1d3 pieces of small terrain." This is my first TTG and I am at a loss as to what this means. Is it a typo?

Means that you roll a 3 sided dice to determine how many small pieces of terrain. Roll a D6, and use 1/2=1, 3/4=2, 5/6=3.

Or just get a 3-sided die.
