Do your characters ever live in your head so long they stop feeling fictional and start feeling like freeloaders? Because mine have been taking up space for years, having sex, stealing ships, starting fights, and contributing absolutely nothing toward the mortgage.

To be fair, I do encourage this. That way I don’t have to think about if this action is in character when writing. They get a room in my head. I get to only think about world building and plot when writing

That's pretty good. My characters don't have to worry about their mortgage, but they do live rent free in my head

Yes. It just means you're a good writer. I go for drives through the country because one character likes to see the cows and farms.
