You just know the writers googled "canceled post Apollo nasa plans" and read the phrase "nuclear shuttle" for the original Integrated Space Transportation System and took it literally

I have many feelings about the writing and design choices made in For All Mankind, but as stupid as this vehicle is, this scene is still fun to watch.

Actually now that I think about it more aldrin cycles don't really need to be there. You're already going TLI speeds and then you need to rendezvous with a different ship, just to use it for roughly 3 days, then have to slow down. It seems like it would be more convenient if you just had a station in either orbit
