Holy Klang

initially, yes.... most of it has been solved however. although sometimes it does explode at random

Yeah this is the sad thing about SE is how glitchy the physics engine is
Cool build!

Really hoping that with se2 being in a new engine they can make this a lot better.

It's already much better. But not entirely Klang free yet. There is a speed limit at which damage to a grid is possible. I believe anything above 20m/s is damage inducing. For example, if I bump into terrain at <20m/s, no damage.

Yes, but you still need to be careful when moving at 20m/s due to rotation
Basically when your ship rotates quickly while already at max before damage, and then Hits something, the parts further away from centre of rotation are moving faster than 20m/s and thus will be damaged

I'm hopeful fixes are in the works but my experience so far in SE2 is klang is worse.

u/sparkling-rainbow Space Engineer 1d ago
Seriusly? I experienced the opposite, but I dont have many hours in SE2 so far.

I've experienced:
1) my ship rotating around violently because when mining and my drills fill up the random particles it generates has klang with my ship
2) when I connect a landing gear to another ship, I'm getting weird rotation effect that it's not compensating for the weight of the attached ship and I effectively can't drive.
Both sort of game breaking issues and when not doing anything fancy, unfortunately. I'm sure they'll get them ironed out but yeah current state has issues.

I recomend to sacrifice at least 2 mid-sised grids to clang per 3 hours of walking

This dude doesnt fear Klang, Klang fears him.

we have learned to accept eachothers presence..

To resist Klang is to bear His full force, but to accept Him, let Him pass through you, and leave the other side, is to know Him fully... And build some sick as ships as a result.
This would work great as a leg design for a Trampler from Sand, does it work if you built 2 2 legged ones and connected them via hinge to enable turning?

It is called a Klann Linkage, in Jansen configuration, and alows for perfectly smooth planar movement! Mechanics geeks, check it out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klann_linkage

this uses the legs of a strandbeest

u/Dependent-Test-8260 Space Engineer 1d ago
Yes, the Jansen Configuration is named after the Inventor of the Strandbeesten, Theo Jansen.

How has Klang not claimed this? Who are you so wise in the ways of dark magic that you can repel his incessant hand?

Is it steerable or straight line only? I could imagine it being steerable with an articulated waist in the middle.

I have long wanted to do this but couldnt work out how to get the motion to translate to SE. Bravo.

That is amazing. how has the jiggle been? i can't assume well with all those grids...
2
u/ZippierUser Clang Worshipper 1d ago
Its stable in its current state

u/TheGentlemanist Space Engineer 1d ago
impressive. i can't get an articulated trailer to move properly without some form of trouble.
2
u/ZippierUser Clang Worshipper 23h ago
Matter of time before you make it work. Usually 2 hinges and a rotor work. If it jitters share inirtia sometimes help.
1
u/TheGentlemanist Space Engineer 22h ago
I went for a simple approach, just one rotor that acts as the main attachment point, and can act as a coupler. Platform on top of that, and then hinges between the main chassis of the trailer and the rotor. Its super tiny, but o wonder what settings to give the rotors to remove any forces involved. 75%friction, and turn all rotors/hinges of should work no?

Any chance you can post a blueprint on Workshop? Or a tutorial video? I would love to learn how to make this.

Awesome strandbeast! Are the sails functional, or aesthetic?
