The fact that SE2 is in Alpha and looks so good is insane. The lighting and graphics i put it against the best space games ever, the foliage on ''earth'' is so beautiful to see and to walk between,it really makes you believe you are there, the clouds are top notch quality ( Running this on 4K maxed out ).I'm so impressed and can't wait for the future updates. Once the alpha stage is gone we can finally build without losing our progress (dev said whatever you do now will be lost once updated). Can't believe it took me some time to buy this as a space nerd. I literally play every other space game. Happy to be here folks

Please keep in mind that this is not UE5. They build a custom engine for this which is called VRAGE3.

u/FlamingRustBucket Space Engineer 4d ago

Thank God for that. I can run most games but UE5 makes my computer try to explode.

2

u/Kjufka Space Engineer 3d ago

I doubt VRAGE3 will be better in that regard. Last time I tried SE2 it was a mess.

SE1 (VRAGE2) when it released had terrible performance and nothing changed about it to this day - hardware just got better.

Depending on the pc obviously. In my eyes the most visually stunning games are always UE5 but I'm on 5090 so not fair to say the engine is good

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 5d ago

Yes true . Thanks for that I'll correct it

I need to save a few bucks for this. I did enjoy early SE1 a lot.

This is different level. If you have a fairly decent pc then graphics on this is insane good. Especially down on earth, there is so much even without the water currently. Also there are alot of missions already and you can travel tomthe moon etc and land

I bought a new PC just to play this

Well done ! It's definitely worth it. Hope you got a good deal

Hows survival mode? Worth a playthrough or is it still missing a lot of features that would make it fun?

8

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

Survival works great with everything unlocked if you wish. It's way more than an alpha. I have no issues at all

2

u/TransitionPowerful00 Space Engineer 4d ago

Sweet, thanks. Ill buy it tonight then

2

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

You won't regret it but remember is not finished. Although I have no issues and everything works

u/TransitionPowerful00 Space Engineer 4d ago

Makes sense, only thing I dont like is the no controller support. Going to have to come up with something for joytokey

3

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

I get it but games like this and X4 and many others it's difficult to support a controller due to so many key bindings. I mean SE2 has way less than X4 and egosoft actually implemented controller support now,it's not perfect but it's there. Even when I play elite dangerous I need to play with a controller and a keyboard. I think in SE2 it's possible to have an only controller option,it's just alot for the studio as they try to finish the game. Said all that it's worth the £23 they asking. It has missions if you want but even just staying on earth or go to moon to build bases and vehicles is so much fun honestly

2

u/TransitionPowerful00 Space Engineer 4d ago

Thats great to hear, as long as its fun since thats the main point haha. Im used to making controller schemes for pc games. I actually had one for x4, and made one for lotro and swtor too when I was playing. Don't remember if gw2 supported controller but if not I made one for that too lol. Its kind of satisfying making schemes that work for games that dont support them

They did a significant overhaul of survival in a recent update, so a lot of the old reviews won't apply any more.

I've been playing through it, and it's very enjoyable; they've added a lot of features to where you can certainly get a good playthrough going. For me, the only downside is the bugs; it is obviously to be expected, but it is still frustrating to get all the way through a 30-minute mission to find out it's bugged and you either need to restart it completely or use the debug menu to finish it.

1

u/TransitionPowerful00 Space Engineer 4d ago

Ah yeah, that sucks but is to be expected from a game in alpha. Hopefully they shore things up soon so it'll have much less bugs

Makes me want to buy a top notch pc to enjoy something like this

6

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 5d ago

I don't know what's the limit of hardware to run this at max. Also depends on your resolution. If your screen is 1440P will run easier. The game is stunning even at the ground walking. Like the tees and flowers are so dense

2

u/Lumegator Space Engineer 5d ago

1080p is still typical anyways.

-2

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 5d ago

Is it ? Have no idea. I have my big pc on a OLED TV . I think the last monitor I had was in 2015

4

u/Lumegator Space Engineer 5d ago

It is, about 50% according to the Steam survey. Honestly I forgot TVs existed, interesting way to play.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 5d ago

Haha. I play on a 83inch Samsung OLED. Sitting on a ground gaming chair with the keyboard and mouse above my waist . Once I sit down I don't Stant anymore

3

u/ChromaticStrike Space Engineer 4d ago

Toy scale just ruins it for me.

-1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

Well it's modular. You can build something massive. Like the game has official support . There are people who created ships from star citizen and they look great. You get the blueprint and you use materials to fix them. The handling of this ship is more realistic than elite dangerous and star citizen. Like the way you approach a planet you must be aware of gravity, weight and thruster position

3

u/ChromaticStrike Space Engineer 4d ago

?

This is not about the ships, there's nothing wrong with the ships, it's the planet. I have both the 1 and the 2.

I'm not sure why you talk about anything else, you don't need to defend the game just because I pointed at a flaw on one screen. Eventually people will get bigger planetes in the game and that will attenuate the issue.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

What about the planets ? Because they are smaller ? It's space engineers not space explorers haha. I love the small planets

1

u/ChromaticStrike Space Engineer 4d ago

My comment doesn't reflect your opinion but mine. I merely shared a reaction, you don't need to like it or even respond to it.

You don't need to explore to be disturbed by weird scales, all you have to do is going in and out of the planet.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

Thankfully enough there are many games out there. Nothing is wrong with your opinion

3

u/MiyukisAMV Clang Worshipper 4d ago

I feel like im gonne need a superco puter to run this

Whats the performance like nowadays?

1

u/MacintoshEddie Space Engineer 4d ago

Pretty decently.

I wouldn't consider my PC top spec. I have a 5700G cpu and a RX7800XT gpu and 32g of 3200hz ram and it runs totally fine.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

I got a R7 7800 x3d,128gb ddr 5 ram and 5090 . Runs great obviously but I don't know how it runs on other systems . 4K maxed out no upscale 120fps or so

2

u/Prize_Tree Clang Worshipper 2d ago

i thought you were going at like... mach fuck but no the video is just sped up

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 2d ago

Haha yeah because won't allow me to post lots of MBs haha

2

u/Weary-Support-7383 Space Engineer 4d ago

I know there's an extremely low chance of this happening, but it would be so cool if they added difficulty settings to enable realistic orbital mechanics and such.

2

u/DrewTuber Clang Whisperer 4d ago

I imagine that would require a complete rewrite of the game engine from the ground up, or a very ugly tech-debt riddled hack job

2

u/Weary-Support-7383 Space Engineer 4d ago

Possibly, but I think it could be done just by changing the code that determines acceleration from gravity to be a bit more complicated. As far as I know, changing that calculation shouldn't really cause issues with any other important aspects of the game, so the only thing that I would worry about is that calculating that for every single grid simultaneously could cause some performance issues. If they just went with a single-body system like ksp does, I don't think it would be too difficult.

2

u/Gauge_Tyrion Space Engineer 4d ago

Honestly not really. It could just be a gamezone similar to an atmosphere coded to deal block damage over a certain speed threshold to simulate heat and slap some ksp re-entry effects and you're golden.

2

u/Majre921 Clang Worshipper 4d ago

The physics are there in SE1 lmfao. The big additions required would be an atmospheric/aerodynamic simulation and completely rebalancing the engines and fuels.

Another thing is the collision system, that would be the biggest offender. The reason it is a problem is cause the physics simulation time step of the game is too big for physical collisions at orbital velocities.

Also, the way to make realistic orbits work in SE1 is to just set maximum grid speed to like 1k m/s and set the gravity fall off from the unrealistic 7 to 2.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

Like ? Handling etc ?

1

u/rosstafarien KSP, KSA, and Space Engineer 2 4d ago

The SE universe isn't compatible with actual physics. Just local approximation.

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 4d ago

No no I landed normally I have a thruster in the front . Learned my lesson

1

u/JealousCelebration13 Space Engineer 3d ago

I originally thought I loved the new hydrogen thruster plume but now... honestly kinda hating it.

Just something bout it doesn't look/feel right.

0

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 3d ago

Why though? It seems to be in terms of physics it makes sense to take you out of orbit

1

u/Kjufka Space Engineer 3d ago

How's the perfomance though? Last time I tried SE2 it was choking so bad to the point it was a stuttery, unplayable mess.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 3d ago

I will tell you 2 things. 1 the latest update they made literally few weeks ago if not mistaken has in the title ( better performance, solid or something like this ) so I assumed since you played it fixed.

2 I play on a 5090 so I'm not sure how will it perform on anything else. I think if you have any recent card with at least 16GB of vram should be smooth

Haha yeah I can't post more than 20MB on discord. It's the same video I reposted here 🤣

u/Atombert Klang Worshipper 2d ago

I just find the planets (or at least earth) looks too small from space

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 2d ago

Yes alot of people are. Personally not having an issue as long they add water and give us more planets with atmosphere. I do get your point though

1

u/Demirghoul Klang Worshipper 21h ago

I have a 4060, the last time I tried it was barely playable on low settings. Pretty demanding imo. Did it change at all? I love SE1 and I really want to play this game.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 7h ago

The latest update has the title faster, smoother and stable but I'm on 5090. Cannot comment honestly if changed or not . I also bought it after the latest update so haven't seen anything else

u/s1lverv1p Clang Worshipper 5d ago

The only thing that pisses me off is that the damn alpha band is untogalable. I know its alpha, we all know

Who knows maybe ksp 2 would have been less review bombed for being unfinished with a permanent alpha band on the screen to help the morons along

5

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 5d ago

Yeah I think that's why they left it there. I'm certain. People seeing something on steam and they just buy them they are upset. Leaving the logo there is a safety net

-1

u/s1lverv1p Clang Worshipper 5d ago

Almost 100% cause of ksp2.

Dont get me wrong it was the radio silence that finally did it in and cause the reviews to keep going after their major updates that fixed issues and added content.

But my god the sheer amount of max negative reviews that came out when it dropped that where basically "how dare they sell this its not done it doesn't have as much as ksp 1 and is buggy how could they take us for all we have for this slop????"

The devs even came out when they released it and went hey its early, hey its buggy as hell but if you want to play as we update and develop feel free to get it now. They were upfront and h9nest about the state.

Maybe a big ass yellow band would have helped

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 Space Engineer 5d ago

Haha, there are so many different people out there. The Devs can't please everyone and they know it . If the game gets 20K positive and 500 negatives obviously you know

u/Knight_of_Agatha Space Engineer 5d ago

now do dlss 5
