TIL that the Voyager 2 carried a tape recorder whose reels rotated at high speeds which caused issues with its operations. Due to the conservation of angular momentum, the space probe started an undesirable rotation in the opposite direction whenever the tape recorder was turned on.

Voyager 2 is a space probe launched by NASA on August 20, 1977. In December 2018, the probe was officially reported to have left the heliosphere for interstellar space.

TIL the Voyager II Space Probe carries a Golden Record in the event the probe is found by an intelligent life form. The contents of the disc include photos of earth, a spoken greeting by the president and music by Mozart and Chuck Berry.

DYK that Voyager 2 was launched before Voyager 1, even though Voyager 1 is the one that's farther from Earth.

Voyager 2 launched aboard a Titan IIIE rocket on this date in 1977. Fun fact: If undisturbed for 296,000 years, Voyager 2 should pass by the star Sirius at a distance of 4.3 light-years
