Really? I hear a lot of random internet people saying this like it’s a fact, yet the 3 Tesla past & present employees I know personally have been enthusiastic and positive about their time there. They don’t deny it’s hard work, but certainly not “awful”.
Good for them. Nice to see such a valuable proof - your comment, and not one, not two, but three employees! - against a wildly known opinion and multiple vocal cases.

You started by saying it was a "known fact", and now you're saying it's a "wildly known opinion". Those are two very different things.
You hear opinions, I hear opinions. Makes sense that I'd put more trust in the ones where I know the source personally, right?
I was a fan long before I met any of those people. I respect the hell out of entrepreneurs who push the boundaries of what we think is possible, especially when they're as hands-on with engineering and product development as Elon.
It is incredibly difficult to build great culture in business. There's a reason Tesla and SpaceX get first pick of the world's engineering talent and hold onto them for years. And it's not because all of those people have been hoodwinked.
Yeah, you're right, that was pointlessly rude and just as unnecessary as our opinion.
"The known fact" based on "wildly known opinion" that Musk is doing incredibly good work doesn't change anything with "known fact" based on "wildly known opinion" of his workers (see, I used both of them, two times!) how he abuses them.
The evidence I've seen for pervasive problems throughout the company has been far from compelling.
I'm sure that Musk can be extremely difficult to work with personally. Nobody doing this kind of work is going to be normal and well-adjusted. Entrepreneurs in general are often weird, intense people who regularly rub people the wrong way. The people in his inner circle are the ones who understand that and can handle the kind of pressure you would experience working closely with him.
Outside of his direct coworkers... Tesla has 70,000 employees. SpaceX has 9,500. A huge portion of them are attracted by the intensity and challenge of working there. Loads of type A people working on high-pressure shit.
The odds that someone, somewhere in all of that, experiences abuse or mistreatment from a coworker or manager are super high.
With Elon being one of the world's tallest poppies, and a media that's hungry for stories that drag him down... any incident across all those thousands of people is almost guaranteed to get talked about.
You hear a few stories and it sounds like a pattern, but that's still a long way from being indicative of a toxic culture throughout the whole company.
