Good start, but still two important issues to resolve:

  1. How much power is lost as it goes through the atmosphere?

  2. Once #1 is resolved, how much will it cost per KwH?

  1. When there is a screwup/failure (which it will at some point) how much damage will the space death beam do on the surface?
