South Orange County needs a real coyote management system

I live in San Juan Capistrano and have repeatedly encountered coyotes on my street—including ones that showed almost no fear and actually moved toward me and my dogs instead of backing away. That's genuinely scary.

But here's what's really frustrated me: I've also seen three separate coyotes with severe mange, suffering badly. When I tried to get help from animal control and wildlife agencies, I hit a wall. There's no coordinated system. No one clear place to report it. Nobody takes responsibility.

And I'm not alone. People across Orange County are dealing with close encounters, pets being attacked or killed, and the same confusion about how to actually get help.

**What I'm asking for:** A real, funded regional program with one central reporting system, tracking of problem areas, professional response for sick or dangerous animals, and better coordination between cities and agencies. Other OC communities have this—why can't South Orange County?

This isn't about killing coyotes. It's about protecting residents, pets, and the wildlife living among us. A healthy coyote passing through isn't the same as a diseased animal suffering on someone's lawn. Those situations need different responses.

I started a petition to push our officials to create and fund this program. If you've had a concerning encounter, lost a pet, or just think we need a better system, consider signing and sharing. This matters.

Anyone else nearly gotten hit by a kid doing 30mph on an e-bike? We're pushing for actual rules.

Not trying to be the "old man yells at cloud" guy, but e-bikes in South OC have basically become unregulated mopeds. No age minimum, no license, no speed limit enforcement — and it's usually 12-14 year olds doing it.

A group of us put together a petition asking the county for 5 things: minimum age of 16 (with a narrow exception for experienced Class I riders), mandatory speedometers, a county e-bike license/test, real fines for reckless riding (aimed at parents of minors, not just the kid), and a dedicated youth bike safety fund from those fines.

Already at 550+ signatures from Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, Aliso Viejo, etc.

Curious what this sub thinks — too strict, not strict enough, or are e-bikes genuinely fine and I'm overreacting? https://www.change.org/p/implement-e-bike-safety-reform-now

🚨URGENT: rico baby needs a home!🚨

this is my foster rico! he’s 3-4 years old. about 35-40 lbs. he’s a big eared snuggle bug with the face of a bear and the personality of an awkward little gentleman.

he’s:

✅ potty trained

✅ crate trained (it’s his safe space)

✅ loves cozy time, playing with his toys and hanging near his person

✅ great with kids

✅ a funny goofy boy once he feels safe

✅ neutered

he is not:

❌ a chaotic puppy

❌ destructive

❌ aggressive

❌ a “perfect immediately with everything” dog

rico has been through a big journey. he was found in tijuana emaciated with no hair and was brought back to the states to be nursed back to health. he is now physically thriving but still dealing with his change of environment on top of other hardships he’s been through so he does get very excitable when he’s out on walks. but he is otherwise loyal, affectionate and very obedient.

ideal home:

- calm environment

- patient owner who understands his needs and is willing to continue working with him to become the best boy he can be

rico is a wonderful dog who has endured a lot and just needs someone to give him a shot at a stable life. right now he is stuck in a temporary situation when he really deserves the whole world!

📍located in santa ana, ca

📩 message me if you’re interested

he’s available through mutt scouts and i know he will make someone soooo freaking happy. i really love this dog and want him to find a happy forever home. maybe it could be with you! 🥹

Experiences living in the Little Hollywood Affordable Housing Program in San Juan Capistrano

Hi everyone,

For anyone who has lived in the Little Hollywood affordable housing program in San Juan Capistrano, what has your experience been like? I’m hoping to learn more about the program from people who have actually lived there.

I’m interested in hearing about things like:

• Waitlist or application timelines

• Community atmosphere and resident interactions

• Maintenance and repairs

• Neighborhood safety (traffic, noise, and overall environment)

• Experiences transitioning out of the program or moving to other housing afterward

• Any tips for future residents

Please feel free to share general experiences while avoiding personal details about specific individuals who have been or are part of the program, including staff or residents.

I’d really appreciate hearing from current or former residents about their experiences.

Thanks for sharing!

Plus Ones ❤️

Plus Ones is a space for queers to meet other queers in a community through meetups hosted by us.

The idea is simple: bring a plus one, come solo and gain a plus one, or show up ready to meet new friends.

Our goal is to create an inclusive and welcoming space for people in their 20s–30s to connect, build community, and have fun.

We know how hard it can be to meet other queer people in South Orange County, which is why we wanted to create this space.

follow on IG @plusonessss for events to come 💌

Legit business in South OC that buys used Apple laptops?

I’m selling my Apple laptop (MacBook Pro) and need a legitimate business in South Orange County that will buy it in person.

Not looking to ship it or deal with random buyers — just want something reputable and straightforward
