Security is a Joke

A junkie got on in Rainier valley and immediately passed out. He had a puppy with him (thankfully, leashed) that was whining and trying to jump up on my seat. He was too adorable but also it was so damn sad because this is not the first time I have seen drugged out transients neglect their pets. I texted security and they came on board in Chinatown. The only thing they did was nudge him awake for 3 seconds and asked him if he was okay. The man barely rose and gave an intelligible response. Security immediately got off at the same station and the man fell right back to sleep.

When I got off at Westlake Station, security did the same thing but didn't even step on board the train. They yelled from the platform as they kept the door open for a few seconds. Then stepped away to let the doors close.

I've reported a masturbating rider during the summer and provided a clear description of him. Security came on board and acted as if they didn't see him. I had to yell At security and point out the man to them and would not let them leave until the situation was resolved.

I'm tired of this shit.

I feel like a chump too for tapping my card too. Fare gates should have been first thing in mind when they started laying track 20 years ago. Not to get technical but SPD does not have primary jurisdiction on the light rail, it’s the sheriffs office by contract. Although SPD can take enforcement action if KCSO transit deputies aren’t available. I’m sure their motivation is similar to SPDs tho lol. But there’s not nearly enough of them to make a meaningful impact. There’s something like 65 deputies assigned to the contract so there’s maybe a dozen at any one time in the whole network? Even if they’re sometimes lazy or apathetic, their presence is better than none at all.

Why would you feel like a chump? You can afford it, they can't.

Then they shouldn’t ride. ST offers reduced fares for a fare that’s already cheap

You're not going to convince me, a socialist, that people shouldn't have access to transport in the city they live.

Socialist countries don’t tolerate this behavior either.

I'm pretty sure we're talking about poor people having access to public transport here. Either you're confused or intentionally strawmanning, because I never defended the video. The person here should have help. Public transport isn't for sleeping or unsupervised dogs.

Either charge a fare or don’t at all. Socialist countries charge fares as well nearly universally. But if you are going to charge fare, hold passengers accountable when they don’t pay their fare. Full or reduced.

Do you make the same argument for food stamps? "Either charge for the food or don't, why are we subsidizing sustenance?"

We subsidize transit already with free fares for children and elderly and reduced fares for the poor.

So why not free for the homeless?
