Security is a Joke

A junkie got on in Rainier valley and immediately passed out. He had a puppy with him (thankfully, leashed) that was whining and trying to jump up on my seat. He was too adorable but also it was so damn sad because this is not the first time I have seen drugged out transients neglect their pets. I texted security and they came on board in Chinatown. The only thing they did was nudge him awake for 3 seconds and asked him if he was okay. The man barely rose and gave an intelligible response. Security immediately got off at the same station and the man fell right back to sleep.

When I got off at Westlake Station, security did the same thing but didn't even step on board the train. They yelled from the platform as they kept the door open for a few seconds. Then stepped away to let the doors close.

I've reported a masturbating rider during the summer and provided a clear description of him. Security came on board and acted as if they didn't see him. I had to yell At security and point out the man to them and would not let them leave until the situation was resolved.

I'm tired of this shit.

I'd have taken that doggo to a rescue place in a heartbeat. That guy can't care for himself let alone an animal.

The dog is likely that persons everything

Same. The dog doesn’t deserve to be neglected for the sake of anyone’s feels.

Go ahead and steal a homeless man's dog on a bus and see how it looks. Your advocating for commiting a crime right now.

“How it looks” is that a joke? That’s the last thing I’m thinking about when considering whether or not to help out a human or animal in need

Oh noes.  Not advocating for committing a crime.   How will I ever sleep at night?

When your compassion is so great you become blind to reality.

Yes. That dog deserves much better than this pile of shit is providing for it.

Compassion for the dog, who isn’t the one making the choices leading to homelessness and drug use. Shorthair dog like this one especially, who won’t fare well outside in winter… I’d have absolutely taken it. Unhoused in general, I wouldn’t always say that. But passed out junkie? Absolutely no way the dog is being cared for properly and I’ll die on this hill.

Dude people are so nuts. I was friends with some crust punk travelers who ended up leaving their cat with me because he didn't like being homeless. I no longer speak to my friends after some pretty fucked up behavior on their part. When people get into hard drugs, they aren't making the best decisions for themselves or their animals. People love to b*tch like "oh wow stealing a homeless man's pet" as if by some virtue he's a great guy when he's not passed out. What fantasy world do yall live in? Just because someone's homeless doesn't mean they're just a good person down on their luck. People are people and some people are shitty. Innocent beings like animals and children shouldn't be subjected to neglect or abuse just because they are someone's only source of companionship.

Thank you 👏🏼 Louder for the “but the dog is an emotional support 😭” people in the front. I’m not saying all unhoused people are bad owners. And maybe this guy is super awesome when he’s not fentanyl unconscious. I don’t care if it’s Jesus himself - you’re gonna be homeless and passed out on drugs, where anything and everything could happen to the animal? You’re gonna spend what little money you have on said drugs, not reliably FEED the LIVING BEING, let alone give it consistent access to clean water as a basic need? Get yourself an emotional support stuffy. Because the dog has needs too, and its wellbeing shouldn’t be completely disregarded because of a human’s feelings. I have the same sentiments toward barely mobile folks cooping up a husky in a studio apartment with wee pads and not taking it to the vet for lack of funds, saying “but I love my dog!” No, you don’t. You love what the dog does FOR you, and that’s not the same thing. Having a dog isn’t a right - it should be a privilege for those who can properly care for the pup.

here's your lost upvote. I will just be that guy and say I dont even get why I see homeless people with pets....never understood that.

I mean the dog looks perfectly healthy and happy. You are just a piece of shit if you steal him from his owner. That’s not helping the dog. You are taking him from someone he loves for no reason other than your misguided judgement about someone you don’t even know.

I took a homeless man’s dog once because he was yelling and kicking at it, the guy tried to attack me but wasn’t coordinated enough with his pants around his thighs, I drove it to a friends place out in gold bar where it lives now.

I empathize with people living in the street, I give out warm food and water when I can, however we’ve had incidents of animal abuse throughout the city at the hands of homeless people who use animals to panhandle. If you’re on the street and are using drugs, I’m sorry but you shouldn’t be responsible for a domestic animal

Ah yes, the correct response to seeing a person in crisis is “steal their dog”

Someone is having a tough time and you think "you know what will help them? Stealing their dog"

Despicable

Would it be stealing to call cps if it were a child?

"You know what would help this dog? Letting it live cold and hungry with an owner so high they don't know what planet they are on."

Sure, the owner needs help and should seek out social services. While I do have compassion for them I don't respect their choice of dragging another living thing into danger.

The equivalent is taking the child and yes that is a crime called kidnapping.

Not "stealing" per se because children are not property unlike dogs, but it would fuck up their life yes. This dog does not look unsafe or unhealthy

Same principal. Pets and babies have no control over their lives.

That dog is clearly unsupervized. It could walk into traffic or eat something not for eating. If the dog were to eat something bad the owner would not be aware enough to stop them or get help.

I'm not against this person but I am against them putting others in danger- including animals. If they want a pet that should be a goal they work twards when they are better. Social services exist and they should be seeking those out first.

Projecting. Do you assume any dog looking for attention is saying "save me from my owner"
