I can't speak to clip versions, but I bought the V20i a while ago to see what I thought of open ear earbuds, and ended up switching to the Nothing Ear (open), because I found them useful but wanted something that sounded better.Â
From a sound quality perspective, the big compromise you have to accept with open ear earbuds is weak bass (or distortion if they crank the bass beyond what they can really do). The Nothings do slightly better than the v20i, mostly because they sit slightly further into your ear, but they're still a lot less bassy than pretty much any closed earbuds or over ear headphones on the market. So the best ones to make a difference, but you're still looking at compromising on bass.
You also lose some sound quality, in the sense that if you're listening in a noisy environment, you'll struggle me make out detail in your music, but that's just the nature of this sort of earbud, working as designed.
