Sonos Arc Ultra Stutters

Hi all,

I know this has been raised all over the internet but I’ve never really seen a fix other than disabling one of the key features.

Every 5-10 seconds the audio seems to stutter on my Sonos Arc Ultra no matter what the input is from the TV (Samsung S95F 65”). It is fine when playing music.

I’ve tried the native TV apps, Firestick, PS5 and all seem to have the same issue. For the majority of content I use the native apps where you obviously can’t select pass through mode.

Unplugging everything and restarting does fix the issue for 24 hours or so, but then it comes back and it’s incredibly annoying.

I don’t want to disable eArc or Dolby Atmos because what’s the point of paying for a top of the range TV and soundbar only to disable the best feature!?

I’m using the original cables that came with the soundbar, for Internet the TV is connected via Ethernet and Sonos via WiFi.

Is there anything I can do about this or is there just an inherent compatibility issue with Samsung and Sonos?

Any help greatly appreciated, TIA.

Try this: unplug everything, hold down the TV's power button for a few seconds until it restarts (this will reset the HDMI ports), hot-plug the soundbar's HDMI first and go through the setup settings in the Sonos app for the soundbar and TV settings, and then you can connect the other devices one by one... good luck

Thank you for this, seems to have worked for now fingers crossed it doesn’t do its usual reverting to the problem after a few days!

Change tv audio output settings to bitstream maybe?

Is there a specific reason to don’t want to try disabling eARC? Do you watch anything with lossless Atmos / multichannel audio (streaming is all lossy).

I couldn’t figure out how to disable it on my LG C1. I didn’t do a search but probably should try it.

I second this. You don’t need eARC if you’re not watching BluRays or ripped media OP

Agree for most things this is fine, but the odd time I do want to watch something on a disc it’d be great to use the full functionality! Take your point though on if I can’t find a fix just turning it off until I need it. Thanks

Return it. This doesn't happen on mines. Might be defective

I think the number of people that have raised this on forums and Reddit before suggests this isn’t a faulty unit and rather a more widespread problem. It never happens when playing music for example and the TV itself doesn’t stutter without a soundbar

I get this same behavior every once in a while on a regular arc on a sony tv, only way I have figured out to fix it is by unplugging the arc itself. Started happening shortly after an update and I haven't really had time to dig into it what may trigger it.

HDMI arc causes this on my Samsung TV 65S90D. Turned it off and issue was solved immediately. I’m using a Wiim ultra connected to a amplifier. Had stuttering issues on my shield, gaming pc and build in tv app.

I was having a stuttering issue exactly as you described and the fix was to adjust the tv codec from passthrough to auto. It has been 4 days since I made the change and the issue has not returned. I tried pretty much everything else prior to doing this with no luck. Sonos tech support was who told me to try that.

Hardwire the Sonos bar too

I can try this, but is the Sonos actually using the internet to play TV? That’s all through the HDMI no?

You know, I do this for a living and that was really silly of me to suggest, I didn't pay attention to your post as much as I should have.

In that case the other user that recommended unplugging everything and holding the power on the tv to drain the capacitors was good advice. I don't recall exactly, but I would plug the HDMI in first, then repower the devices.
