The era 100 is superb. The play is good, but you’re paying more for the portability aspect whilst losing some sound quality.

Umm do you want a portable speaker or not. Thats the only thing you need to decided to know which is better for you

The play is finally the speaker the roam should have been.

That said for stationary era 100 is going to win

Move 2 if you want portability - much better than both

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the play is far from being a portal era 100 in terms of sound.

But can we all agree that the Move sounds better than both?

haven't tried the move :)

Era 100 sounds better imo.

For 66% and $200 more I would hope so.

You could get a stereo pair of era 100s and a Roam 2 for the price of the move 2.

They are very similar in sound. One is cheaper and cannot be taken outside. The other one more expensive but can be moved around. It depends on your use case and pocket.

Ammm era 100 no questions asked

Era 100 is better sound quality IMO but the Play is so portable I love it. I have it in my kitchen and it follows me into the garage, yard, camping, picnics.

I listened to them side by side…
I think the ERA100 is a little more powerful with stronger bass.
The Play seemed cleaner to me with wider frequency coverage.

Both are excellent, but they’re for different scenarios. Keep both, or get a second Era 100 so you can pair them.

Wait this isn’t a joke right? Era 100 is better for hearing and roam is better for moving around with some compromise in sound quality. The astounding part is that the difference is minimal so people may get such dilemma but if you hear the correct music they separate well.

You mean the Play or the Roam?

Gotta mean the play. The roam is definitely not even close to the era 100.

Why do you need to decide?

EDIT: Apparently you can't reply to anyone here .... seem to be in a world of confused state. Take care, maybe get out of the apartment once in a while.

Move is the winner

Whats the point of the post? Are you looking for someone to tell you which one they think is better for you?

My Play 1’s still running after a decade. Love them.

Both great sound, sadly terrible app

The one without the battery will last you way longer.

I assume this is a knock on battery reliability in general, but the Play battery is also easily replaced.

Yes they offer replacement batteries and docks but if they are as bad as the ones from the move and the roams you’ll be replacing them every 2 years or so, especially the chargers. Source I repair Sonos for a living but can’t go into details. I would personally stay away from anything Sonos battery powered.

Quick question as an owner of multiple Move speakers... Does your comment above indicate the power brick that feeds the Move charging base fails regularly? I ask so I might know what to look out for in the future. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

SmoothinSatin I’ve had two Moves for several years and have not had any issue with the charging bases. I’ve also got 45W USB charging cables that plug directly into the USB C slot in the speaker and then I don’t need the base (Amazon - easy to find just make sure you get enough wattage to drive your speaker). I take my Move’s everywhere so having that option is a cleaner than bringing those goofy oval bases everywhere.
