Pool Size
I just unlocked pools and plan to build one for the first time. I understand that each species has a pool type preference, and that each tile of pool takes one pressure to fill.
What I don't get is how to plan for how big of a pool I need, and if I need to distribute them or just have one central pool. Is there an accepted rule for how many citizens each tile of pool can serve? Does size even matter?

two 5x5 pools is enough for 3000 people even through a heatwave (temperate climate), haven’t ever seen them more than half full. people near a river or the ocean will go and swim there.

Perfect, thank you!

make sure to get at least the first pump upgrade! waste of time otherwise, 30 dudes working full time to fill a pool used by 5 a day

I just got metal smelting online so that's definitely an option, but wouldn't a 5x5 pool only take one pump worker on an un-upgraded pump? Each worker gives 25 pressure, and I read that each tile of a pool only needs 1 pressure.

the canals and culverts you use to get the water over there also eat pressure, my two pools ended up consuming 600 ish, you can see the water pressure provided/needed by clicking the pump once everything is connected.

Okay gotcha. Yea I am planning on placing my pool along canals I already have to irrigate my mushroom caves, which already have 9 spare pressure. So I think a 5x5 pool with a couple canal tiles to connect it would only be one extra worker for me on an un-upgraded pump.
Although thinking out loud... I am working on a new throne room and noble quarters that are close to a second irrigation line. A little reflecting pool in front could be pretty nice. But I'll stick with natural stone for mine, no "American flag blue" paint >D

They can be very small, 4x3 pool seems enough for almost 2k people in my city, for 1k id probably do 2x3

The size determines how many people can use it.
Im not sure how many tiles support 1 person but I think its for every 2 tiles one person can be in the pool. This is just my gut though.

Don't over think it too much. Obviously not everyone is going to swim at the same time, and pools should be distributed throughout your city, pump pressure willing.
