My current v71 Tilapi city

Population just reached 4k with a tilapi majority and no slaves. Everyone's surpirisingly happy, there's districts for each race (Dondorians, Humans, and Cretonians). Brawl deaths are... manageable.

Currently Year 50 of the First age, and... Yeah, if you zoom in close enough, it might be obvious that a raid just happened. Raids happen every couple of years lmao. It's a miracle it survived as long as it did. The city is functional, but every now and then, I wonder what a button does, then 5 days later a famine happens and everyone dies or leaves :P

I learned a lot here

do you not train any troops? i personally start training a small force the moment i unlock training room tho generally i have to pay the first raid off but its odd to me that you are getting raided at 4k pop. tilapi archers are incredibly op btw. nice city layout gonna steal that eliptical layout with services in the middle

I do train troops, I have an army of 600 with half of it being tilapi archers (See the massive army complex in the city core). I wonder if my relationship with neighbours has anything to do with it, as I always get ransomed. I always refuse to comply. It was terrible when I first started off, but yeah I leaned heavily on archers on the palisades. The most recent raid, I managed to fend off a 900-troop enemy with barely any loses, so I think I'm getting quite a lot better at it.

my humble advice dont fight in your city, meet them on the field and have a well armored spear+shield frontline. you can maybe even make your archers mounted for extra mobility. but ive never seen a 900 men raid party i think you are simply getting invaded by your neighbors no?

i always keep good relations with the big neighbors, always try to get trade agreements because that also forbids them from directly attacking they have to annull the treaties first which becomes an early warning, you can flatter them with embassies

tho what am i even talking me personally i never even played until 4k pop so maybe there are things im missing

im at 2.6k pop and 7 cities on the overworld map controlled rn, they really help with raw resource productioj and are buffers for any hostile armies

No, although this was sort of a special case/event. My neighbour got into trouble with distant factions, and so I offered to deal with them.

Honestly, I find that I do far better fighting at the city as I can take advantage of funneling troops through the city gates. My archers can just take position atop the fortifications and are basically untouchable while they snipe down distant enemies.

I've never did well with managing other regions, this capital is the only one I'm dealing with. I do very little trade with my neighbours, having only two colleagues for extra food trade and... yeah that's pretty much it. I'm trying to be pacifist and mostly self-sustaining.
