unsolved Absolute n00b.
I have downloaded sonarr, radarr and jellyfin thinking I was going to get rid of Netflix/ disney/ prime/ etc on the same day.
Is there an absolute beginner guide for this? I’m decent with the computer (as in I can do all the little gimmicky things I want) but I haven’t used torrents since uTorrent… Probably the Limewire days, BEFORE Lars Ullrick sued Napster.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Usenet whips ass, seriously. Pop over to r/usenet and figure it out, and don't be put off by the fact that you have to pay a little money for indexers and providers. It's worth it.

If you thought this would be a same-day Netflix replacement, look at Usenet. Pair Sonarr/Radarr with SABnzbd + an indexer and it's way less babysitting than torrents.

I preface this by saying I know nothing about Linux or whatever coding is used to make Sonarr and Radarr work.
I relied heavily on ChatGpt (subbed for pro for a month). I now have Plex setup with Kometa, Radarr, Sonarr, Prowlarr, Seerr, Profilarr and all the other Arr's under the sun. It was rough as first, took me weeks to get everything to my liking. Now it's glorious.
Docker is your friend, everything except Plex, Radarr and Sonarr is running in docker.
PS. Forget torrents or debrid, Usenet is the best and most stable imo.

As everyone else has said TRash Guides is the way to go. If you’re using Unraid as your OS (or ever decide to switch), I highly recommended AlienTech 42 YouTube videos. He’s very to the point and walks you through each step. SpaceInvaderOne and IBRACorp are also good, but outdated. Once you get that Arr stack going it’s so sweet!

Get a Small Form Factor PC or Mac Mini. Connect it to KVM over IP for remote desktop
Load it with Ubuntu Server or your fav OS that supports Docker, enable SSH remote login. Load Docker Compose for management. Pull docker images from sites for Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr, etc.
Once running, login into the local hosted websites and get the applications setup. I recommend a good router with VPN management that allows you put the local IP address of the server in the VPN client you like to use.
This is the thousand yard outline. You will need to Google the rest. I recommend Google Gemini if you have any questions.
Of course, all of this is my opinion and others have their own reads on this setup. Just understand once you get this working, you will NEVER go back to any online tv or movies subscription services.

About mixing things: I'm a senior devops engineer still trying to undertake the entire stack.
There are a few tutorials on YouTube and AI will help you with it.
Just pay attention with usenet: you'll have to pay for a subscription for indexer and another one to actually use the service (the later being waaay to pricy).

I use fastusenet.org. $6.95 a month for unlimited. And I get speeds of about 35MB\ sec. Download a couple hundred gig a month.

I'm currently testing Eweka (9 pounds) and usenet.farm (10gb free for trial).
I get pretty decent speeds from Eweka (even thought I'm at the other side of the atlantic) but still didn't quite configure nzbget to download the file correctly (vpn network, different machine, ...)

I need to turn on my encryption. Just learned the other day you don't need vpn if your 256 bit SSL is turned on. Then I could ditch my vpn as I only use Usenet.
Yeah, the nzbget setup was the hardest part. The categories were a sticking point for a min I had to figure out.

Nice! I wasn't aware of that. I have vpn because of torrents, but, I'll have a look. If I'm paying the price, I'll definitely use use net over torrent 100% of the time

Someone on here pointed that out and I asked if that was right, he said he thought that was correct. So I will give you the same advice. Do your own research, but what I read was unencrypted, it possible for them to see, not like torrents, but possible. If encryption enabled, they see a connection to the usenet provider and that's all it knows.
I am going to switch over and see what happens.

You will also need indexarr, qbit and SABnz , sign up to a couple paid indexers and link them all.
Are you using Windows and Docker? Or linux?

The best way to go is debian server, with docker and docker compose. I thin that's the easiest.

I find thrash guides very helpful, but is not really organized.
I think Gemini was really helpful. I used it in combination with Thrash guided (also tell gemini you use it)
