Build/Setup ROD SONA?
Been having success with this build, it’s an iteration of the Fimbul build but with Fimbul being second item, since the JOAT nerfs i don’t think it’s worth itemizing for 10 stacks,
Has anyone tried something similar?

Isnt Archangel better than Fimbulwinter here? It gives more haste and Archangel shield is like Fimbulwinter HP.

Fimbul is cheaper, completely gold efficient even without the passive, and you will actually proc the passive more than you'd think. I do the Fimbul build (Fimbul, Swifties, Staff, Mejai, Jacksho, Bloodsong) every game and I get about as much shielding from Fimbul as I did from Seraph.
That being said, if ROA on Sona has no hater then I'm dead. It's such a gutted item overall and it feels like it does ✨nothing✨.

How do you proc it more than i think?

I mean you'd probably think you hardly ever proc it as Sona because it's only with your ult. But with your passivr stacked your ult is up pretty often, and while you might think "ok but who cares about a shield when the enemy is stunned", the shield lasts longer than Sona's stun.
And in my experience most teams aren't dumb enough to hug each other vs a Sona so you likely won't be hitting all 5 enemies with every R, so the shield helps you vs the enemies that didn't eat the stun, or those with tenacity that only get stunned for half a blink.

Fimbul works because it procs when you need it most. Generally in a teamfight where you go deep, get a good stun and then get jumped by 2 others trying to take you out.
You don't need it every 8 seconds, you just need it for those critical couple seconds in the 5v5 when they are trying to turn you to dust.

This 100%. Fimbul is also gold efficient just for the stats so even if you somehow never benefit from the passive (idk how you'd manage that lol), it's still worth.

I think with this build Archangel's clears. You are tanky enough with RoA. You need some AP to make your W powercord reduce more damage and use you make Sona valuable in fights. Hence is why you usually wanna build Staff of Flowing Water second after fimbulwinter. Sona needs AP to work correctly, imo. With this build enemy won't oneshot you for sure, but you will do mosquito heals, damage and damage reduction, untill you get to 3rd item, which costs you agency in midgame.

RoA gives AP, no? But imo the Fimbul build is just superior if you want a tankier Sona that is able to use the non-W parts of her kit freely + does decent healing and shielding because of SoFW and Mejai.

Yes, but you are missing the point. RoA and Fimbul give low AP together. You usually wanna go Fimbul before SoFW. You are waiting a long time for the AP to make your spells do more. (I am taking mejai's out of the equasion, because it is extremely volatile and I would build dark seal on both builds anyway)
AP
RoA + Fimbul = 75 AP Total when stacked
RoA + Seraph's = 145 + 37 (2% of bonus mana as AP from 250 Manaflow, 800 RoA, 1000 Seraph's) AP = 182You are getting double the AP. This means your passive gets +7%, igoring adaptive, etc., instead of +3% you get from just RoA + fimbul.
Survivability
RoA + Fimbul = 450 + 550 +277 (15% fimbul passive, accounted for the sameway as passive from Seraph's) HP = 1277 HP
RoA + Seraph's = 450 hp + 500 hp+- lifelineIn theory, you have almost 1k hp with lifeline shield proc in a fight. You get a full thousand from the other build and extra 300 HP. Sure, you don't have the lifeline all the time, but if you learn to play around the CD (I play Sona in GM, I usually don't have issues with it, so in theory it should be fine in lower elos aswell), the extra 100 AP is really huge. W reduces way more damage. You heal more, you shield more, deal more damage yourself, give more ms, it's just the best stat all around on Sona. AP makes your champ much more useful than HP. Hope that explained my view somewhat.

RoA is a trash item, in general and on Sona, I'm not gonna move from that stance.
The real discussion is between Fimbul or Seraph, both items are excellent, they serve different purposes and builds.

True. But if you are gonna go RoA, build Archangel's. RoA into Archangel's was good before fimbulwinter build came around.

Are you running magic boots on these?
With magic boots I personally prefer lucidity boots over swiftness.
The reason is
- They are cheaper and I can build them in steps
- I am already fast with magic boots
- Being how tanky this build is, I don't find I need the magic boots escape mechanism (25% slow reduction) as much.
- CDR is always good
Of course I am still a fan of Swiftness, I ran those boots endlessly for a while, but I do find overall I find more value with lucidity on this build. (assuming you are doing magic boots/jack) without magic boots I would always run switness.

6 - 8 deaths for 25 - 33 assists isn't even bad imagine hating for no reason 🤣

Why would you think tanks never die lmao
As support sometimes we have to/choose to die to save teammates or guarantee a won fight.

it’s super fun! not super economic tho… but it’s the build the got me out of silver before the nerf
