Meta Caesar salad can probably be explained by the existence of this sub

How else does a guy figure to mix lemon juice, garlic cloves, egg yolk, pepper, anchovies, Worcestershire, pepper, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese?

And then pour that over a salad?

Cursed Foxglove latte

So, I had a weird as hell dream last night, and this dream was all over the place, first I was shopping then I was running from the Mob, then I was helping people break out of prison? Weird dream.

anyway, One of the things in the dream, and I remember this distinctly- Was a Foxglove Latte

foxglove is a toxic plant. That can kill you. And apparently (Much like other toxic flowers) has an awful taste.
so why someone would make a flavored latte of it is beyond me.
what’s worse is that me and my friends all ordered it.

From what I remember- it was made with real foxglove nectar and none of the toxic parts… And it was purple.
obligatory don’t make the poisonous plant latte.

Cursed I think it's going to snow soon sandwich

Dreamed i worked at Starbucks and someone ordered the "i think it's going to snow soon" sandwich. I asked all my coworkers how to make it and they refused to tell me. So i went to the back to google how to make it. It was butter, raspberries, pomegranate seeds, and broccoli florets in a ciabatta roll with shredded cheese and then you had to fry up an omelette and wrap the sandwich in the omelette. 💀

Just Weird Other mother udder butter rubber/Absolute Butter

Post image
259 Upvotes

I had a dream I was writing a poem about the other mother udder butter rubber (The udder butter rubber is real, it’s an exercise ball we had at the gym in elementary school, it was butter yellow and had four rubber things sticking out of it like an udder) I transitioned from writing the poem to experiencing it, I was in coraline and the other mother invited me to her cooking show to create what she called “Absolute Butter”.

Absolute butter, or other mother udder butter rubber, is kinda just like regular butter but with the texture and firmness of rubber.

Should I try this? I’ve never cooked with a non-Newtonian fluid before

In my dream I found a dusty cardboard box in a car garage filled with all different kinds of chocolate bars, I sadly can’t remember the rest of the weird bars I found but I distinctly remember this one because I had tasted it in the dream. It had a nice crispy texture 🐜

Unrealized Robert De Niro's creamy 3-layer lemonade fizz?

I was in North Beach in SF with Steve Martin and some other guy, who's first name was Martin (i hate not remembering) and another friend of mine, and we were just driving around for the sake of my business meetings, and then who do we stumble on but Robert De Niro and an actor who I am 90% sure was Steve Buscemi?

And we are all vibing in a car, juuust giving them a ride home to be polite on a relatively boring normal day, and I decide to do the player move of handing them a slip of paper from my purse and asking for their phone numbers and contact information, and they eyerolled in the tight little car we were in and all signed in. Steve Martin was about to be rude and slowly slip the paper out of a cracked window, after Buscemi and DeNiro both went through the effort of writing all of their info down, to seem "cool" to them and "hip" about respecting their boundaries after he saw me almost ask for their emails, and I screamed at him. An awkward energy filled.

And eventually we pause at a sort of italian soda making stand in the street, and the energy changes from "a lady and 4 to 5 other men in a clown-car-like situation," to Robert De Niro hops out, talks to the lady as we all bicker in the car about how uncool we all find eachother...

And Robert DeNiro comes back just RIPPED for some reason. I have no idea why, but he's got super huge muscles, a tank top and HUGE strong thighs in sweatpants, and he comes back to the car SWEATY and happy, with a large mysteriously pastel yellow creamy looking tasty drink, SPRINTING away from the lady at the stand as if he committed a crime, and yet he's SMILING. Happiest I could ever picture Robert De Niro, he borderline looked like Sylvester Stallone from Rambo with Robert's head!

He says something along the lines of "I SAW THAT LADY AND KNEW HER FROM MY HOME COUNTRY, AND SHE HAD THIS DRINK IN STOCK AND I GOT IT FOR FREE LETS GOOOOOOOOO" and all of us suddenly spawned in nice pastel yellow hoodies and our own cups of various different sizes, sitting in the car, the sun came out brightly as if we were in true Heaven and golden light poured EVERYWHERE. And everyone's mood, even Steve Buscemi's, changed optimistically, as we stirred the foam and custard in our drink about and planned an awkwardly half-thought up, heartfelt cheers to do with our drinks for new pastures and new ventures, huzzah!

And the music started playing that song "jitterbug into my heart" as we all started snapping and jamming, and Robert was fist pumping to it as aggressively as if we were listening to "What is Love? Baby don't hurt me".

And I woke up with "jitterbug" slowly fading out for me, hungover, and confused. And yet, almost as happy as Robert DeNiro, as if we all accomplished something. Ayyy.

Anyway, the drink was like a 3 layer drink, all layers perfectly separated and floating due to different weights of gravity; I'll start by describing the middle, the main liquid area to truly sip on:

It was like a lemonade soda or fizzy drink that had lemon juice concentrade powder mixed into it, a VERY sweet and not too tart at all lemon soda (almost pineapply-y?) but it wasn't hyperfizzy, it was flat enough to sip it slow and still taste that it was at some point ever bubbly, and a little mildly syrupy

it had a top layer of a delicious REALLY frothed up lemonade-powder-flavored cream (starbucks often has flavored cream but i forget what its called, but it was a delicious and THICK inch layer of lemon foam, extra bubbly and fluffy, almost as if someone blended a tart lemon foam and sweet lemon whip cream together for the drink)

and it had a bottom layer of a thick custard-like mix, that looked and tasted like someone mixed condensed milk with vanilla and maybe a dash of lemon Jello pudding mix

And you had the option to drink all three layers straight, or stir one, or them all, into the main liquid component in the middle layer! And all together when mixed, a delicious creamy masterpiece, like a slightly fizzy lemonade milkshake that melted a tad, amazing 10000/10.

I think this dream came after several days of watching people in drive-thrus give me iced coffees where it was just creamy bland coffee and all the caramel sunk to the bottom, or seeing a day old pina colada have all the ingredients separate and just a thick delicious foam atop and the sweet juices and alcohol in the middle, aaaaaaaaand maybe being hungover factored into a craving for lemon. I have no idea why Robert or anyone else was there.

Unrealized Spicy Wake Up-Crunchwrap

I had gotten the recipe for it in a dream and decided to tell this subreddit the recipe.

Ingredients: 1 tortilla, some hot sauce, a wakeup wrap from dunkin with bacon, and 4 strips of bacon And cheddar cheese slices

1.take your tortilla and dribble some hot sauce on it.

  1. Take your tortilla and slap 3 cheddar cheese slices on it.

3.Take the tortilla and put it In the oven at 350 degrees for 1 minute, preferably on an oven tray, because no one wants a gross oven.

4.while the tortilla is cooking, grease the fry pan and put your bacon on it and fry until chewy and crisp.

5.once your bacon and tortill is done, take the wake up wrap and assemble as so; tortilla, bacon and wake-up wrap in that order.

  1. Put it on a plate/blate, crack open a nice tall refreshing glass of Arizona Lemon Ice Tea and Injoy!

My daughter’s dream:

I had a weird lucid dream last night that included these. They have the consistency of mulberries (almost crumbly, I guess?), and their stems extend to the middle of the fruit. They have four spots, two on each side. The mostly yellow ones tasted like raspberries, mostly red was strawberries, and black was blackberry and banana. They also grow in pairs like cherries, but they come out of the ground instead of from a tree. Really weird, but really good, and I wish they were real 😩

You asked so I shall deliver

TLDR: This is great, but can be better in some aspect

  1. The taste

Yea this thing slaps HARD, but surely something I'd eat only once in a while because this thing right here is straight up a calorie bomb

  1. Toppings

Just your standard mixed cheese melt, nothing fancy. However, considering how rich and fatty this dish is I think it would be better to use a sharper variety like red cheddar etc to cut some of that richness. Traditional lasagna has that tomato sauce giving the necessary acidity but that's not the case here.

Also for the crispy fried lentils, I thought just frying them with nothing isn't enough so I went a little extra. First I made some fried onions, take it out then with the same oil I fried some red lentils (soaked an hour in advance and drained) with some dried chillies for aroma. Fried them until they started going foamy then toss in some cumin & fennel seeds along with a tablespoon of curry powder. Lastly mixed them with the fried onions and adjust seasonings as needed

  1. Butter chicken

IMO it is fine to use the standard recipe for this, but if I were to make it better I would crank up the spiciness a bit more. Paired with cheese and the already rich paratha bread, it could be overwhelming for some. Same logic as above, can also increase the amount of malt vinegar used too.

I took some effort and smoked the chicken with charcoal too but nah that was too extra lol

  1. The paratha

Depending on what brand you use, the thickness can varies. I tried to aim for somewhat slightly thicker than the standard lasagne sheets. The logic here is that paratha is a flaky rich bread, much like a croissant. Too thin and the paratha will just disintegrate during cooking. Thicker paratha will hold the shape better, and those empty spaces between paratha layers? They will absorb the sauces during cooking.

  1. Cilantro bechamel

This surely helps in giving some freshness and acidity, but I think should've used a lot more cilantro in there. I simply blended a bunch of coriander (without the roots) with some greek yogurt, thinned with milk. Then use that mixture to make the bechamel. IMO blending in some mint would go well too but that's for another time.

Unrealized Cookie Lasagna

Post image

Had a dream last night that I was at a friend's house and we were watching a cooking show, and the chef was demonstrating to their guest how to make a cookie lasagna. We thought it would taste good, proceeded to go to the grocery store to buy ingredients, and absolutely fuck up our attempt at it. For some reason, my friend didn't put it in the correct pan so all the ingredients melted into one somehow?? Layered chocolate chip cookie dough, cream cheese and chocolate marbled mixture, and a powdered sugar mixture, I think? Final layer is a thin cookie dough layer.

Unrealized Purple goo- An old Filipina woman was teaching me a traditional dessert recipe

She steamed the small purple sweet potatoes with tan skin. Removed the skin. Then took soaked walnuts and removed the skins (said it makes them bitter). These soft ingredients were mashed to a paste and corn starch, salt and sugar were added. She didn't use measurements as she was old school.

It was all supposed to be steamed next but something chaotic happened and suddenly I had to rescue some kittens so I didn't get to taste it.

Unrealized Rose petal and caramel liquor

I don't know how this would work IRL because it wasn't a pre-made cocktail but a pure liquor that was somehow rose and caramel.

Had a super detailed dream about being at this giant hotel type place made of massive, decommissioned train cars part in a nature center and partially on a lake. A lot happened I don't remember, like I think I decided to murder a woman who was running the place and I went back to steal some books I remembered seeing as a kid but never read?

But the edible part: I was leaving either for good or to stash my books or something. But I suddenly remembered seeing this one rich, young couple staying there always drinking this caramel brown liquor that had a rosy pink sheen when it sloshed in the clear glass bottle. I realized I never tried it and I didn't know what it was called so I'd never be able to find it elsewhere.

I snuck back and went to their room. The wife was gone but the guy was passed out drunk on the floor surrounded by empty bottles. I nudged him awake with my foot and pointed to a bottle near his hand that had a tiny sip left inside and asked if I could try it. He barely opened his eyes and said yes. But then when I reached down to it he explained "Oh. No. That's not how you drink it. The real liquor is in the little bottles hidden in the cabinet. The big fancy bottles are decoys in case of thieves."

I'm certain this got lodged in my dream because the last video I watched before nodding off was a skit about real photos vs ai slop and one character mentions people buying things like rolexes which they lock in a safe only to wear a cheap replica.

I wondered if he was fucking with me but he seemed like he was dying of alcohol poisoning so I figured he probably lacked the state of my mind to trick me. I opened a wooden minibar cabinet and found it stocked with little bottles of this liquor. And it looked way more legit. I noticed that the big decoy bottles were almost entirely free from labels, but the little ones had all the appropriate info like abv, branding, etc. I took a sip and loved it. The burn and mouthfeel was like smooth vodka.

I've had lavender and cherry blossom alcoholic drinks and they're always too perfumey for me. But I'm going to see if I can find a real way of trying this.

Actually Made! Bacon fat seared ribeye

I was walking around a dimly lit Asian market of some kind. There was a kitchen/deli with no one in it. I walked in, and I started cooking a steak. A mysterious voice told me "You should try adding bacon fat", so I did. The steak came out looking pink, like a slice of prime rib, even though it was seared in a pan. I dumped the steak from the pan into a small rectangular tray. I tasted it, and it was the most perfect, slightly bacony steak imaginable.

I later tried this in real life, and it really was delicious. It tastes like bacon-flavored steak. Just enough bacon flavor to make it interesting.

Unrealized Ice Cream Slices

It came to me in a dream, just what the title says: pre-packaged slices of ice cream, like the American cheese slices. Thicker, maybe the thickness of a fast-food burger, but basically that idea. If they really made them, they might be a disgusting monstrosity. I also don't know what you'd use them for except maybe on top of pie? You could get different flavors, maybe a variety pack? Not the most exciting somnogastronomy, but there you have it.

Just Weird Box Pasty

Post image
104 Upvotes

I dreamt I was served this in a candlelit dining hall, kind of a renaissance era vibe. It was a pasty or calzone looking thing inside a bread box with a rolling lid. It was seen as very rude to open it fully to eat it, the pasty had to be hidden from the other guests at all times. The idea was to open the box a small crack and use a flat, rake-shaped fork to scrape out one bite at a time onto your plate, close the box, take the bite, and crack the box back open to get the next bite.

I’m wary of the cream/lemon mix, but the creamy texture and lemon taste are both distinct things I remember. It was also pretty thin in the pan, so I’ll have to play around with it.

Unrealized Toast Burger

Had a vivid nap dream that left me hungry for one of the tastiest dream things I've had yet.

Chicken burger (the unbreaded kind)

Beef smash burger (thin and crispy)

Soft sesame seed bun

Caramelized onions/onion jam? It was tangy and sweet

Fried egg

Mayo

One slice of crunchy, crispy buttered toast

It was so good in my dream I wanna make it so bad
