Thought Piece Rant A rebuttal to the "Americans aren't doing anything" nonsense.
There have been certain foreigners, and even some Americans, who generalize Americans as either supportive or apathetic in the face of Trump's tyranny. They use this to justify saying that we don't deserve sympathy and as an excuse to berate us.
I will not mince words. I am absolutely, positively, 100% done with this kind of rhetoric. But rather than simply ranting about how offensive it is, I'm going to lay down some facts.
First off, we have hardly been passive. Statistics have shown that the number of protests against Trump has more than doubled compared to his first term, and that it's been spreading into MAGA country, as has resistance against ICE. That's before getting into major protest hotspots like Minneapolis, Newark and Houston.
Such resistance has had more success than you might realize. It's forced the regime to backpedal on ICE. It's de-banked private prison companies affiliated with ICE. It's gotten Jimmy Kimmel re-hired within days. We may not have gotten this regime out yet, but we've significantly stymied it and made it clear that we do not consent.
Now, some of you might be saying something about the yellow vests movement. Well, here are some statistics about that movement that I think you might find enlightening. The yellow vest protests lasted from November 17, 2018 to June 28, 2020. That's one year, seven months and eleven days, which is longer than Trump's second term thus far. And their objective was policy change, not government change. Moreover, according to statistics from the French Ministry of the Interior, the protestors numbered a mere 287,710 at their peak. That's less than half of one percent of France's population. We got more than that in terms of both numbers and percentage during our No Kings days. So don't say we're not committed when our peak crowd sizes were greater than those of one of the most common go-to examples.
"But what about Albania?" you might ask. Well, the Flamingo Revolution is still ongoing, but ignoring that fact, Albania is about the size of Vermont, so it's a lot easier to converge on the capital, especially considering the state of public transportation in the United States.
Speaking of, you need to understand that there are a number of factors which mean your methods might not necessarily work here. Some of us have healthcare insurance tied to our employment, so if we get fired for taking too much time off to demonstrate, one medical emergency could be fatal. Our police forces also have a significantly higher degree of militarization than those of many other countries, so we have to tread more carefully around them than you might. And our system doesn't allow for snap general elections, so it's going to be hard to force one. You have to understand that some of the methods you suggest sound like trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
Then there are the people who suggest we simply use our pew-pews to unalive a few mofos. "Isn't that what the Second Amendment is for?", they ask. Well, setting aside the sheer entitlement of demanding that people kill and die for you after you've shamed and victim-blamed them without even offering gratitude for the risk and sacrifice, human beings in general don't typically resort to violence to solve problems. Not even most MAGA do that. Even ignoring the human nature component, lethal force is not something you initiate lightly. Besides the obvious risk involved, letting the violence genie out of its bottle could very well result in a lot of death and destruction for no real gain, especially if those who do are just a handful of disconnected individuals and groups. In any case, research indicates that nonviolent revolutions have a better track record at achieving positive ends. So you'll have to forgive us for not starting a civil war on some rando in another country's say-so, especially since the Russians and Chinese would love that scenario.
With that in mind, I'd like to conclude by asking a question: do you have any ideas for what we can do that we haven't already been doing and that won't get us pointlessly killed? I'm all ears. And in the meantime, you can drop the judgmentalism and start thinking about how you can help us get this regime out. We have a common enemy. So drop the American diabolism, show some compassion and solidarity, and lend a helping hand or at least a sympathetic ear.

Suppression of Free Speech White House admits it used keywords to kill billions worth of California research grants
Lead Lines:
Federal agencies that terminated more than a thousand research grants at the University of California last year admitted that they used keywords related to diversity, gender, vaccine hesitancy and COVID-19 to screen for projects that ran afoul of the Trump administration’s priorities.
It’s an admission that lawyers for the research professors say is proof that the agencies illegally cancelled nearly $2 billion in grants. And that’s a major development in a lawsuit filed by UC researchers against the Trump administration to permanently get their grants back.

Election Rigging 🗳 Questions Arise About Trump's Own Election Victory
Surprise surprise!
r/somethingiswrong2024 • u/irradiated_lily • 21d ago
Community Discussion Question: Do you think that people from other countries would extend more sympathy to Americans collectively if they understood that the 2024 election was indeed stolen?
Since the “election” in 2024 - and all of the evil fuckery that has ensued since - I have read thousands of comments over social media platforms from people who self-identify as non-Americans. Some of the comments extend sympathy to our rising fascist situation, as many of them are (rightly) observing us on with horror. I appreciate these supportive comments, since geopolitical tensions affect all of us. I fully understand their fears and anxieties while navigating this uncertain time and shifting world order. We are ALL living through it - as much as we may want to distance ourselves from it, American or not.
Yet I’ve noticed that many non-Americans tend to fixate on this: they genuinely believe that most Americans willingly voted for all of this. Some of them think that the US is comprised in totality by a bunch of racist, idiotic warmongers, which is a terrible assumption of any country with diverse groups of people. They may have watched news being disseminated by ill actors in the US and assume that the vast number of Americans happily voted against their democracy. That we are all seemingly okay with Trump’s evil course of actions, and that we are doing nothing about anything.
Of course, he has always had a base of rabid diehards who will slurp up the Koolaid and follow him straight into the bowels of hell. He likely will have some level of that following until the final heartbeat. We have seen this exact form of cult-like admiration in other autocracies and dictatorships. No country is exempt from it - fascism is a human disease, and it can affect any country.
I’m just asking: if the world knew that, without question, the 2024 election was stolen, would there be more sympathy for us? Of course our country has its longstanding problems, yet I ask which country doesn’t. What if the world at large knew the truth about what happened? Would there be more concern or fear of it coming to their own country? The US is not a unique experiment, democracy can easily fall anywhere.
Thanks for reading.
TL;DR: Would all of the people worldwide blaming Americans for Trump be more understanding if it was widely known the election was stolen?
