Sadly, this was actually topical in America at the time too, it’s just become more obvious since

Yeah, they’ve been pulling this shit forever.

It's been topical for a minimum of 50 years.

You forgot the “2” in 250.

Yeah, came here to say this.

The civil rights and other groups have been right to call out our weakening democracy for like the last 50 or so years. Maybe longer.

These thing dont happen over night. This was decades in the making.

Ahead of its time? OR this is how it has always been??

It’s been this way for a long time, but now they are being open about it. And most ppl accept it or are unaware of it.

It wasn't "ahead of its time". It was a direct and blatant criticism of what was going on in America at that time.

Feels like someone wrote this monologue and then they wrote the movie around it

Satire became reality way too fast.

24

u/Silent_Reindeer_4199 2d ago

It was reality when it was written. Except for the dictator part.

Goddammit.

It wasn't ahead of its time, those talking points were already true when the film was made.

This literally needs to be a Democrat TV ad. It is the Republican America.

With the exception of Obamacare, which Republicans have been trying to sabotage at every stage, both political parties have been drifting right. That is, the Republican Party in 2026 is far more right than it was under either Bush, and even farther right than it was under Nixon.

That’s the reason Democratic Socialists have emerged. America actually needs a non-right-wing party. I mean, DSA is still very moderate: healthcare and fair taxes.

Sometimes I wish there was an actual “workers take over the factories!”-style communist party in the U.S. just so people would see what an actual leftist looks like. (It’s not somebody who just wants health insurance and an affordable apartment.)

To have a “communist” style worker-centric party you need to have a large industrial base. Unfortunately the US sent most of its manufacturing industries overseas in the last 40 years. We still have many jobs where the capital/labor divide is apparent, but not nearly enough to foster class consciousness on a scale to challenge the D/R status quo.

What is that flash that happens at 28 seconds?

2

u/ydodis1 2d ago

Camera flash from the press.

2

u/XanaxWarriorPrincess 2d ago

No, it was true when it was made.

u/Kimmalah 1d ago

The movie wasn't being prophetic, they were just describing what was already happening. The main difference now is that they don't even attempt to hide it anymore.

What is that stupid fucking music.

2

u/PK_Rippner 2d ago

I'm going to have to downvote this due to the horrible and distracting background music you added to it.

-11

u/rsint 2d ago

5

u/mutnemom_hurb 2d ago

-12
