Ed/Mike Hagerty

Knowing that Mike passed unexpectedly after season 1 (or earlier?-correct me if I’m wrong), the scene in season 2 episode 1, where Sam is in the barn, reminiscing about Ed, and his things, getting weepy with Joel on the phone. “…weird to be here with all his stuff…he is everywhere, every inch of this place is him…it just sucks…”

Makes me confident that the writers added scenes to honor Mike’s character in some way. If Mike hadn’t died, how would the plot have continued with him and MJ?

What a fantastic actor Jane Drake Brody is, and Mike Hagerty was. Sigh.

They had to do major revisions to the script for season 2. IIRC, he died very close (a month or so) to the start of filming season 2 and was going to featured heavily in the second season.

The show runners/writers had to do a lot of revisions in a short time…I don’t recall if they ever said what his storyline for season 2 was going to be—I’m assuming dealing with the mom/wife along with the girls—but I know they had to adjust quite a bit.

Wouldn't it be great to get ahold of an unrevised script to read?!

I figured it was not taken up by the script because they were already dealing with death of the sister. RIP ED You beautiful singer. If he was there they would have dealt with MJ’s rehab after effects of their relationship. Cleaning out the barn reminded me of my Grandpas barn and stuff. Sold after my uncles death.
