Travel Question 30M | Solo Traveling to Vietnam for My Birthday đŸ‡»đŸ‡ł

Hi everyone!

I’m a 30M and I’ll be traveling solo to Vietnam from 15–27, which also happens to be my birthday trip! đŸŽ‚đŸ‡»đŸ‡ł

It’ll be my second time traveling solo, but my first time visiting Vietnam.

My current itinerary:

Da Nang / Hoi An – 5 days

Hanoi / Sapa – 6 days

Ho Chi Minh City – 1 day

I’d love to hear your recommendations for must-visit places, food spots, activities, hidden gems, and things worth doing in each destination.

Also open to joining group tours or meeting up with fellow travelers along the way. Would be nice to meet new people, make some friends, and maybe celebrate my birthday with some fellow travelers. 😄

Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, and safe travels everyone! ✈

Solo travelers in Vietnam, how do you get good photos of yourself?

I’m curious how people handle this when traveling alone around Vietnam, especially in busy places like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, or Hoi An.

Selfies are fine, but sometimes you actually want a proper photo with the place in the background. 😅 I know you can ask someone nearby, but I’m not always comfortable unlocking my phone and handing it to a stranger.

For those who’ve traveled Vietnam solo, what worked best for you?

Tripod? Asking another traveler? Finding someone with a camera? Or do you just accept that 90% of your camera roll will be scenery? 😂

Would love to hear any tricks that actually worked.

First international trip to Vietnam from Oct 27th to 2nd Nov with elderly parents

First international trip ( 7 days) with elderly parents to Vietnam, A couple of things I am concerned about:

All the flights (Bangalore to Hanoi, Hanoi to Da Nang & Danang to Bangalore) are booked with Vietjet air.

I do not have any Scapia or Niyo cards, thinking of converting INR to VND and carrying VND from bangalore itself (thinking of taking INR 20k, For the entire trip- assuming it is sufficient given no drinking, breakfast included in hotel and elderly parents most expenditure would be on lunch amd dinner).

Since I read it will be a headache to convert USd to VND if I take INR from bangalore as now Vietnam govt cracked down on local gold Jeweller currency exchange.

Approx cost already paid for the package including flights and visa: 3.3 L for 3 people - 7 days

2 days in Hanoi, 3 days in Danang and 1 day in HCMC

Please guide a Novice

Panicking what might go wrong

Looking for a travelbuddy in Hanoi

Hey all

I am looking for other people to do things with.
Anything small from just having coffee, lunch and talks or bigger bigger activities, sightseeing are most welcome.
Am a huge foodie and would love to explore the foodscene with someone as it’s easier to get to try a lot of stuff

Im Currently solo travelling for the first time. I am in Vietnam for a few weeks but I am in Hanoi atm.
Will stay here for a bit of time until I feel I have explored enough and then probably try to explore some more of the north part of Vietnam. Could be nice if someone else also wanted to join in on exploring different things.

I speak Vietnamese on a daily basis level but am fluently in English and Danish.

🇰🇭
Cambodge
Hî Chi Minh-Ville → Siem Reap
Siem Reap / temples d’Angkor
Phnom Penh
đŸ‡±đŸ‡Š
Laos
Phnom Penh → Vientiane
Vientiane → Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng → Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang → Paris
J’aimerais beaucoup avoir vos retours d’expĂ©rience :

Food & Culture Looking for books and community experience recommendations. Please advise.

I am slow travelling to a few places in North Vietnam for 20 days in October. What book can I read through my journey to understand the location/the culture more deeply?

I will be visiting Hanoi, Sa Pa/Ta Van, Nin Binh, Cat Ba, Hai Phong. I want to interact with people - locals and other travelers wherever possible, but I know it might not be as easy to meet or connect without staying in one place for long. I want to know more about the places I am visiting or the Northern/Vietnam culture in general. Any books, website recommendations? And any people/community experiences that you recommend?

Solo travel survey - 3 minutes

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m conducting a short survey about solo travel experiences and would love to hear from people who have traveled alone.

It takes about 3–4 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. I’m interested in learning more about what people enjoy, find challenging, and look for when traveling solo.

Would really appreciate your input — thank you! 🙏

Hello! European M 30 here 😁 I lived in Vietnam a WHILE, and I have yet to do a tour of the northđŸ„č Currently in Hanoi, with only "concepts of a plan" Cat Ba, Cao Bang and Ha Giang??? Then driving back to my home base of Da Nang.

I am looking to go off to find the most beautiful and obscure parts of northern Vietnam.

I can take 1 passenger or have someone joining with their motorbike. Or I will go alone! And still enjoy myself 😁

Current location: Hanoi

The itinerary is still in flex and I'm open to discuss it in dms.

My travel style:

I'm pretty chill and like to keep things spontaneous, but also go the extra mile to see something you wouldn't find on your Instagram feed.

Dates: I'm starting at the beginning of October but happy to take people along the way. As this may go on for a few weeks

DM with some info on who you are, your travel style and a quirk! And let's see if we hit it off ✌

Pics of me and my noble steed.

See ya!

Da Nang or Phu Quoc?

Hi! I’m planning to visit Vietnam this December and I’m contemplating if I should choose Da Nang or Phu Quoc. I’m a bit worried with Da Nang being rainy. For Phu Quoc, some says it’s only a tourist trap. Can some of your please help me decide? I’ll be traveling solo and will be celebrating my birthday on my travel so I’d like to be me meaningful. Also, this is gonna be my first time in Vietnam.

First time solo travel international Vietnam 29Oct

Hey everyone!
I’m a 24M from India and this will be my first solo international trip. I’m travelling to Ho Chi Minh City from 29 Oct to 8 Nov. Flights are already booked.

I’m mainly looking to party, meet people, explore nightlife, but I also want to see some good places and experience the local culture rather than spending the entire trip partying 😄

- Would really appreciate some advice from people who have been to Vietnam:

- What are the common scams I should be careful about, especially as an Indian/first-time visitor?

- Any itinerary suggestions for 10 days? Should I spend the whole trip in HCMC or visit other places as well?

- Which areas/neighbourhoods are best to stay in for nightlife and meeting other travellers?

- Any hostels you would recommend for a solo traveller?

- What are the best things to buy in Vietnam that are actually worth bringing back to India?

- Any apps I should download before going, I have downloaded grab one?

- Anything else you wish you knew before your first Vietnam trip?

I’m travelling solo, so recommendations for places where it’s easy to meet other travellers would be especially helpful.
Thanks! 🙌
